Does anyone know of a software on the PC that can be used in a similar fashion to the Kaoss Pad?
I love my KP3, but i find that my songs seem lacking after a while because i'm bound to 4 loops.
I've checked around online and i see a lot of people talking about Mobius and AmbiLoop, but i found Mobius' interface a bit confusing and i didn't really like ambiloop.
Good looping software??

Re: Good looping software??
What is your purpose? I do not know what you are doing, but from my experience software is always inferior to gear if it comes to accessabilty. I had a jam with with a mate and his guitar, and firstly we thought 4 banks aint that much, but resampling is really a great thing, overdubbing rules.Control wrote:Does anyone know of a software on the PC that can be used in a similar fashion to the Kaoss Pad?

I'm using the KP3 so overdubbing doesn't really work like the Kaossilator. I find the looping on the kaossilator a bit problematic sometimes when trying to get it precisely on time once you have turned the loop off/on.
Basically i am looking for a software which i can interface with a MIDI controller that would give me looping comparable to KP3

I use Ableton to record loops from my KP3. The clip view is excellent to record loops right on time and have them run after I stop recording.
The inexpensive Native Instruments Launchpad is perfect for recording and starting/stopping loops. You get Ableton LE with the launchpad. If you just want to use it for Live looping that edition is probably enough.

Thanks Euro, I was actually looking at the Launchpad the other day as a solution for this, but i didn't want to drop $150 at that moment if it wasn't going to do it for me.
I've used Ableton in the past for laying down pre made tracks, but I have never used it in a live-looping sense. Is it possible to have Ableton loop something and then keep playing the track over and over unless turned off, as well as keeping the time when the track is turned off just as the KP3 does?

Yep, you can have columns with multiple samples. You can play a sample from each column at once.Control wrote: I've used Ableton in the past for laying down pre made tracks, but I have never used it in a live-looping sense. I use my electribe as the source for speed and transport. And I have a K-Pro hooked up to my KP3.
I can sample from both sources, so for instance I could start a drumloop, sample it in ableton and have it start playing immediately (or stop). So I'll usually sample a loop, kill the sound of the electribe and let ableton play the drums. This frees up the electribe to build another drumloop.
Same goes for the KPads, I'll play something, sample in ableton and while that continues to play I can start playing something else.
And the neat part of ableton is the timing of the loops. I'll have ableton loop for four bars continuously and when I start a sample on the launchpad anywhere on the last bar it´ll start at the beginning of the first bar. You could change this, both globally or per sample. You could get everything to start as the track gets at a quarter bar. Or you could get that oneshot sample to trigger everytime you hit a button.
If you've already tried out ableton, try this looping/sampling style before you buy a launchpad to see if it works for you.
