Another flawless Kronos performance

Post by ScoobyDoo555 »

My band played quite a big venue last night - a beer festival. And I can happily report another flawless performance from Kronos last night.

The band changed the set ON stage 5 mins before. So straight into "Edit" and cut/insert to change them round. 8)

The sound out front from this thing is just in a different league. A wide mix of Hammonds, EPs, synths (mostly constructed by myself) and sampled patches (conversions from my old setup)

Still waiting for the photos and video to materialise (still quite early after a boozy night!), but when it does I'll post up.

In the meantime, if anybody's interested, we're on Facebook (Funkatronic Love Commandos) and also have a Reverbnation setup (http://www.reverbnation.com/funkatroniclovecommandos)

This thing just makes gigging SO easy.

Great sounding band... my kinda stuff! Would be very interested to hear a soundboard recording with the Kronos in the mix from a gig 'cos that's primarily where I'll be using my K73 when it gets here.

Good to hear you had a nice gig. With my current synth (M50) I have to either copy combis around when the set list changes before the gig and hoping I have kept enough gaps between the combis or write arrows on the paper.

Had a big one at a local festival for us too. The Kronos allowed me to get rid of a couple rack units, making my setup quite easy these days. Literally takes me 3-5 minutes to setup and be ready these days.

I did however accidentally step on my surge protector which cut power to the Kronos! Sucks having to miss 2 minutes of a song while it reboots, not to mention the possible damage it can cause to the kronos. Hoping to take better precautions in the future.

One complaint is the responsiveness to the touch screen. I need some very quick changes and i"m thinking the only way I will get them accurately is to setup a pedal to do the change for me. Maybe its the sweat on my fingers or something? Sometimes have to press a button 2 or 3 times to get it.

Can't be the sounds though!

I have a Behringer which has enough pedals and foot switches for this job. I barely use the touch panel. Alltough it is very good, for very fast changes a hardware button (preferably by foot) is even better.

just wondering which rack units you got rid of when you got the Kronos?

Thanks - I'm very fortunate to play with some purely fantastic musicians.
SUCH a tight band 8)

I've got to get another sustain pedal - probably a Yamaha foot-switch type.
My DX7s is being used as my top-teir machine, purely as a MIDI controller (what a waste, but I can't complain - I bought it for £60! with a faulty battery. Soldering iron session and CR2032 later, "et voila" - sorted!)

My Combis span out various lead sounds and string pads to the DX, but my Korg pedal sits bolted onto my Kronos. Could do with some sustain for the DX.

I've also noticed that the touchscreen can be a little sluggish to respond, but I've got to say that my setlist selection has made this a moot point. I mostly tend to use are the part-mute buttons and the joystick(s) - too busy actually playing! :D

I just posted this in another thread....

This pedal works great in Set List Mode, as well as Combi or Program modes. Now I am completely hands free. Great for SST. Performed with it for the first time last night. Wow!!

Not entirely sure if this is possible on the Kronos, but on the Triton I put my keypad on "lock 10" and then I just jump back and forth amongst the most used patches with the keypad. Very direct. Alternatively, couldn't you use the inc/dec buttons in the set list mode?

I would like to use two foot switches (via MIDI cc changes) for up AND down. Currently you can only select between up OR down, but not both, which is a shame. In that case I could use e.g. a piano for couplets and organ in refrains for one song and switch between two patches.

It's a very easy firmware update, just define two new CCs: program up, program down.

I think EnjoyRC found the solution to your problem though? Unless you are talking about switching individual patches within a combi perhaps?

Well not exactly, if I understand correctly you can enter 128 program (changes) into the device which are more or less fixed. What I want is a simple Program up and Program down CC (signal). But Korg does not support this. On the other hand, if you program it from 1 to 128 it should work :-) ... but I already have a big pedalboard, otherwise it would be worth considering.
