Porting Wavestation sounds to Kronos (to RichF or Dan)
Hello, i have a question for RichF or Dan or someone at Korg. I don't know if this was answered here or not, but i haven't read any post that clarifies this answer, so sory if i'm repeating a post or info already provided.
I use e Wavestation SR module and have thousand's os patches ans wave sequences in my library so my question is, is korg planing to provide a way for wavestation users to port their sound's to the Kronos? I mean in the same way we can port DX7 sound's in to it, sounding exactly the same (or better) as my wavestation.
Thanks,
Jorge

Hello, if any one could give any info regarding this matter i would be very thankful. It would really be great if Korg or anyone could make an app to translate wavestation syx to be loaded in the kronos. I know that the Oasys has all the original pcm samples of the wavestation sr, i'm gessing the Kronos has them too

IIRC the Kronos has all of the waveforms and all of the korg expansion card waveforms too

Well i hope that it can, i think the better word here would be recreate the wavestation, this is something i just can't understand mo matter how i try to look at it:
If Korg has put the analog part of the Legacy collection (MS20 and Polysix), and has put wavesequencing and vector syntesis along with all the wavestation pcm on the Kronos, why on earth didn't they recreate or gave the ability to recreate a wavestation inside Kronos and to load original wavestation patches? Speaking for myself the wavestation for me is as important as the analog stuff or the FM stuff. And that's another thing, you can have a DX7 on steroids on the Kronos just like the original and better, how about fully integrate the wavestation as well? It was a korg synth, and it was wildly used in the past by load's of top musicians and is still today.
I'm a big Genesis (Tony Banks) fan, that is part of the reason because i got the wavestation in the first place. but also cause still today it is a great synth.

Here's my speculation on it .....
For Korg to go to all the effort of putting the raw samples in the library i would say at some point there will be a wavestation engine port from the legacy plug in ...
Will probably be an engine that you have to pay for ...
Just my thoughts

Why are some people backward-looking instead of forward-looking? Should Korg include all patches from the M1, T3, 01/W, Trinity & Triton in their next workstation? If you need a WS, buy a WS or a virtual WS.If Korg has put the analog part of the Legacy collection (MS20 and Polysix), and has put wavesequencing and vector syntesis along with all the wavestation pcm on the Kronos, why on earth didn't they recreate or gave the ability to recreate a wavestation inside Kronos and to load original wavestation patches?
BTW, you can recreate original WS patches on the Kronos.

Apart from the different synthesis systems, it would be nice for people having older sequences they want to have 100% reproducable. Korg should be possible to convert all the parameter settings (for us it would be much more difficult because we do not know the levels/graphics for each parameter value). Besides, it would not cost too many space. Older synths have normally less than a gigabyte of sample size and the Kronos has lots more (so a small increase percentage wise).Chriskk wrote:Why are some people backward-looking instead of forward-looking? HD-1 is your 'Wavestation engine'. It should be quite possible to recreate Wavestation patches in there. And go far beyond.
IMHO it would be a waste of resources (in many ways) to effectively duplicate and limit the functionality of what is already there. SYSEX import, maybe...
Although you are right, it would be damn nice to have the Legacy wavestation on an instrument like the KRONOS.

It should not be so, that Korg employees should try to recreate every old patch (M1, N series, WS etc), but to have an automatic update of synth engine parameters and all the samples available. They probably need time to make conversion code, but once finished all older patches should be able to convert.
Of course the patches will not make use of newer possibilities (i.e. M1 patches will not make use of non existent parameters from newer engines), but that's not important, 100% patch reproduction is the goal.

What i was trying to say is that it would be great to have the ability to load my old wavestation syx patches on Kronos and have them sound as good as they do on my wavestation, and also have the ability to tweak those patches with the new abilities the new engine has to offer.
@Chriskk, i really don't think it's a question of looking backwards or forward, cause then we could say, why do we need an ms20 ans polysix (old synths) when we have the new analog synth engine on board? Cause they sound good and are fun to use. Is analog technology more worthy than digital technology? Why do we have FM synthesis on board then? Every thing has it's place and specific use. And as i stated peviously, i do have a wavestation SR, so besides being nice to tweak old patches in the new engine, i also be nice that i wouldn't need to carry the SR with me any more, but till then i'll keep it in my rack, no problem.
Oh and btw, i know that the WS sounds can be recreated on the Kronos, what i don't see is the point on having to re-program them myself on the Kronos when a conversion program can probably be made to convert them.
