lfo timing issue
Hi everyone,
this might be a frequent question, but honestly i´ve been asking myself for months and I can´t find usefull information anywhere so, here it is.
I mainly use the emx for dubstep music and, of course, i (would like to) make heavy use of wobble basses. Thanks to some trial & error and to reddone`s tips I´ve managed to get some decent wobbles going. Problem is: I record the motion in the modulation section, then I manually correct it in step edit section. After some twiddling everything sounds nice, BUT 50% of the times I start the pattern, the lfo isn´t timed precisley and just slips of the beat. The thing is, the other 50% of the times, I start the pattern and everything sounds as it should, so I don´t think I´ve recorded or programmed something wrong.
I´m asking myself if this might be a problem of the machine itself, but I see that lots of people are quite happy about their wobbles and don´t notice anything strange. On the other hand, I don´t think I´m the only one encountering this problem so please, if you know what I mean just tell everyone.
Thank you.

Hey drian,
Yeah i have exactly the same issue, it doesnt actually start when you press the play button, it's constantly going which is an absolute nightmare when you're trying to play dubstep as it will sway out from the beat.
Happened to me on http://www.youtube.com/user/gloomyelect ... 4H_Df8oCI8 but cause i was recording it and playing with the speed knob at the same time i didnt actually notice it was out of time until it had all been finished and uploaded (and im too lazy to do it again) :<
With future dubstep recordings i just have to record it like 100 million times until it starts where i want it to which is bloody annoying. I've also asked on here a few times but it doesnt seem that there's a good way around it so you're basically screwed if you want to play live
(
Anyway, this is the reply i got when i first posted, but it wasnt the "yeah, if you want it to start from the same place every time just do this"

I assume you are talking about using this LFO in a "beat sync" state. As I recall, the triangle wave is different to the other LFOs... in as much as it does not get "re-triggered" by a note-on command (where the note-on doesn't overlap with a previous note), whereas the other LFOs all do re-trigger.
You can get round this by:
a) using the Saw-wave LFO (the top one)
b) using a motion sequence instead of an LFO
c) ensuring that your LFO rate is only ever at an appropriate value to guarantee that the LFO is always at its lowest point when the pattern re-loops.
Of these, c) is the most impossible, unless you are also dealing with a computer, advanced midi controller, or never want to tweak the LFO rate in real time. You can get away with a motion sequence (b), then turn it off and tweak, if you remember to activate the motion sequence to get it back "in time" in time for the re-loop. you might want to step-edit the motion sequence, or record it at a much lower tempo, for accuracy. Using thesaw-wave (a) CAN work, but the filter will move from one point to another, then move INSTANTLY back to its starting position, so you don't get the "up-down" filter sweeps you are probably looking for, but this depends on your music of course.

thank you whiteleech,
even if we don´t really get to solve this problem its still good to hear I`m not the only one struggling on this. Seems like the only way to pull off dubstep in a convincing way is to record the machine rather than play live. Honestly, this is a heavy drawback of the emx, playing live is obviously the reason I got it.
I saw pretty good emx-dubstep livesets on youtube, so I still got a little bit of hope.

I've noticed that before starting a pattern or song containing some LFO programming that if I hit the 'reset' button before hitting play on the pattern the LFO will restart from it's default position. Hope this helps you guys out, give it a try.

haha , yeh this "tri" wobble thing is a pest ... but i usually find it easiest so record the note pattern without lfo , then set timing and depth of lfo .... then press STOP !
then ... hold a note while pattern is stopped and listen to the " tri " lfo pattern , and hit PLAY when the time is right .. now when you hear the pattern the lfo shoud be on beat every time . ( accuracy is a must when hitting play !!! )
Thats how i roll , works 99% of the time .. evrytime !
but its little use that method if you are paying live at a gig .. in that situation use "saw" type ... it is generally better IMO , and less of a hassle .
