[tip] KILL ALL DRUMS while pattern is playing

Post by gil videla »

just discovered this "trick"

use the accent on the drum part to "kill" the drums much like a DJ will use Kill switches on a mixer.

what you do is have an EMPTY pattern on the ACCENT part for the drums
grab the VOL knob and turn from 0 all the way to 127, it will mute the drums almost all the way down - for a DJ like effect... then bring the knob back down quick by next measure.

YOU TUBE clip coming soon.

Only works if you don't use the accent part. I always use the accent part to add a bit of dynamics.

true. For me, however, i've always found the accent part to be TOO dramatic and I don't like how it effects ALL parts at once, not really accurate to me (comming from a drummers perspective that I have)

to each their own, but I like the DJ like effect it does

hope some can use it as well.

X-trade,
you know what I was thinking, since u mentioned you use accents a lot.
Here's what you could do;

you could copy the pattern that has all the accents (Pattern A) to a new pattern (Pattern B) and then on the last bar of the Patten B you take out the accents so you can do this drop effect. then you can return to back to Pattern A... I think this would be great for you since you like to have a lot of dynamics, here's another one, it'd be hard to mute up to 9 buttons for one bar and the un-mute again during a 4count.

hope that helps

You can adjust the amount of accent by using the level knob. If you turn the knob all the way to the left there will be no difference between the accented and un-accented parts.
I don't like how it effects ALL parts at once
This is not true, you can enable\disable the accent function seperately for each part by setting the Accent Sw in the Part Edit section.

Both of these procedures are described on page 40 of the manual. :D

My ESX is silver! Just take off the faceplate and use oven cleaner to eat away the red\blue. :D

Just to add to this, you do also know what happens if you hold shift, mute and then press any drum (or synth) part button?

funny you say that because the on/off for each part has to be activated correctly for this "trick" to work. I should know better, you're right.

correct, just spray oven cleaner on it. I've seen people use Easy Off, but it's a bit strong and has taken the silkscreen on some peeps electribes. I found a "cheap" oven cleaner at the dollar store and it worked great on both my EMX and ESX, there's a thread I started "my silver esx' about a year ago, there's pics of all of it...

Speaking of silver, my friend has one of them aluminum sand blaster things and he's offered to use it on my electribe if I want. According to him it will give the faceplate a nice matte finish... not sure if I wanna go that route - I don't need the silkscreened parts, I know what each knob/button does.

We also plan to make some wood side panels (or maybe acryllic) we also plan to replace the LEDs. I am thinking of doing the RED, OR, YLLW, WHITE (to mimic the 808) along the 16-step Sequencer...

All the silkscreen texts stays. The cleaner only effects the aluminum.
