Hey,
Is there any way i can make a synth part (say a bass line) sound like one continuous line rather than a series of really quick successive notes?
I.e. any way to make a smooth bass line with step edit?
cheers!

adjust the Gate Time to be more than 1.0, that means the envelope generator and oscillators won't be retriggered for each step

ok so.. been playing with the gate time
If i'm to use it, does it mean that i have to adjust the gate time for each 16 seperate notes in bar? and this is after i've actually figured out the correct gate time for it to sound smooth.
e.g. do i have to.. set gate time, hit record, play note, stop. set gate time for the next note, hit record, play note, stop etc etc repeat, then play it back to see if its the right gate time, then adjust accordingly and keep doing so until its the correct gate time?!?!
Am i doing this all wrong?

I wouldn't keep stopping and starting like that. Record all the notes at once, then go back and adjust the gate time for each one.
If you record notes on steps 1, 5, 9 and 13, then set the gate time for each to 4.0, which will (I think) make them continue to the next note
Edit: or maybe that should be 4.1 so it overlaps the next note ... try it and see

Wow, thanks a lot both of you. I'll have to try that tomorrow or something. I got mine 4 days ago and am getting better all the time.

I didn't see any other threads on step editing to here goes:
Is there a way to step edit motion sequences? When I try, the 'motion destination' comes up as 'no value' or something (I'm away from the emx at the moment). Is there something that I'm missing?
Thanks.

That must mean there's no active motion sequence, assuming you've got the correct part button (and the Mot. Sequence button?) highlighted. It should give the name of the parameter you've motion sequenced if it's saved, then you can go to MotValue and you should see the affected step button flickering, along with the numeric value in the display. When this is shown, you can tweak the value per step.
This is a great way to avoid endless mind-numbing retakes once you've got your motion sequence "almost right" because otherwise you'd have to record all the bars again from scratch.

You can. I just don't remember exactly right now. I think you hold down shift and turn the knob to the motion you want to add then step down one on the pattern button to adjust value. Can't remember completely, but it tells you how to do it in the manual.
Also, if you already have the motion recorded via other means, you should see it in the list when you rotate the knob.
