i want to transfer my midi files from emx to ableton so i can edit them more precisely!i,still wanna trigger emx sounds!
so,whats the easiest way to transfer files since i dont reckon you can save them in emx!?
how do you record them in the sequencer?
i dont think there is much difference between ableton, logic or cubase, they are all sequencers right?
when you wanna change sounds(patterns) in your emx do you send pattern change messages from your sequencer(if 5 sounds are not enough)?
Orbit,if you assign all your drum parts to one midi track than you cant edit them separately apart from velocity right?
many thanx

Listen my friend, I'll give you a clear answer
First things first

aaight?
It is NOT possible to transfer MIDI files to your sequencer (ableton). The EMX saves a full pattern in memory or stored on your card in a different language. Everybody was waiting for a new emx with usb port and some new stuff...
If you already have made so much pattern. I would recommend to RECORD the MIDI while playing. Send via MIDI OUT to your Computer. Record as a midi clip. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY! to do it. You will have latency. And you will have to refill in the scores cause they will not be exact. (because of latency)
To do this you have to make 6 midi strips. For example you can choose DRUMS on ch 10, Synth 1 on channel 1 synth 2 on channel 2....... Synthpart 5 on channel 5. Every parts has to have it's own midi channel. Note that the drum section is a section on it's own... One midi channel for all drum parts... All drum parts are triggered by some notes. I do not know wich octave. It's in the manual. Or just try to push every note to see where those notes are...
Afther all conections are made... you can transfer midi out or in... With MIDI you can do what ever you want
...
Yes you can draw velocity for each note that then will trigger the drumparts... NOTE: You can infact trigger every changeable parameter. Velocity, duration,... per note. This means via ableton you have much more modulation options. Because ableton can send to every knob. And EMX has only 25 knobrecords...
Yes ableton, logic... MIDI is MIDI...
Pattern change... is in fact PROGRAM CHANGE MESSAGE. So yes if you have to change between patterns because you want to change some sounds... You can do this in the clip itself. You will see BANK, SUB BANK and PROGRAM... You have to figure this out for yourself cause it has been awhile for me. Bur Those parameter are made to send to every device that has midi in the whole wide world. I THINK the banks stands for A B C or D And the PROGRAM number stands for the number itself.
So pattern A31 would be bank 1 Program 31. D53 would be bank 4 program 53.
Note: PROGRAM CHANGE MESSAGES are send through the GLOBAL MIDI CHANNEL. The Global midi channel For the EMX is SYNTH PART 1 channel. GLOBAL parameter changes are send trough this channel. Every midi device has a global midi channel.
I hope I was helpfull with my bad english
