I thought there would be more reaction around this announcement, especially as it seems likely this means we won't be getting a truly new model of Electribe any time soon.

On the plus side it shows that the Electribe range must still be selling fairly strongly. And I'm sure there will be changes they haven't announced such as reducing the risk of knob jitter.

Dissapointing that they didn't upgrade the units themselves; some kind of new features, or at least more powerful processors offering more polyphony. Can't believe it, really.

Having said that, I generally salute Korg for their new offerings (and not replacing the M3, as I just got it, haha)

that opens a lot more doors for resampling on the esx... and sampling in general when it comes to line in recording then the ol' chop... kinda cool but again kinda sucks.. thats less of an update the sp404 got when it went to sp404sx... and a lot of people hated on roland for that...

it may help more people buy electribes but i dont think many people who currently have them will replace them..

So that's the best they could do in 6 years?

From DV247s blog
New model types on the updated MX include Chord, which via pitch manipulation lets you create just that from a single note, Unison - stacking the same sound at slight pitch variations to create a chorus effect, and Waveshape, effectively merging different oscillators to forge new forms. From there, numerous filters, drives and modelled effects allow you to create exact patterns set to 207 different customisable drum samples.

The Electribe SX meanwhile offers a superior command of sampling, allowing you up to 285 seconds of recording to the internal memory, with the result then assigned to 16 separate parts if you so wish. Two of these can also be keyboard parts for melody work, and each of the parts can now be significantly edited with the likes of time-based effects (slicing and pitch-preserved stretching), resampling, and truncating (effectively trimming the track before and after marker points). Note also that MIDI clock and auto-BPM are included on this model and the MX.
Is any of that new?

So anyone can confirm this Sd electrib has the same ram of 50 mb? Why don't they make it read directly from the memory? (SP-404 do that from a few years now...) So that you don't have any memory limit (just the sd memory limit). They lost a lot with this move!!!

if this is true I am very sad...

Please comment this, maybe I am wrong...

I can't confirm it but that seems to be the case from what I've read :(

is there anything to upgrade? you can't upgrade to an sd card reader, as that's a hardware change. the only other differences I see are the new presets, which someone (maybe Korg) will make available as a download, just like you can get the factory presets today.

Well, replacing the SM drive with SD should be doable without too much hassle...?

No, not new, unless you've been unconscious in a coma for 6 years.

yea after i made that post i got to thinking... and dammet youre right the new card system wont help sample time at all anymore... especially since they have it plainly stated that the sample time is the same the old way... stupid and an unnecessary update

Has anyone opened one up? Is the card reader on a separate PCB?

THis is f*ck*ng s**t!
and the only reason Korg doesn't care to actually make an even better Electribe is because they DON'T HAVE TO because the 2003's still sell so well. I can accept that, but technology moves quickly and they know and this is the best they can do: change the media card, a CARD, f*ck this is stupid.

I have been hoping/anticipating the next gen Electribe would rub elbows with the ELektron machines. I'm seriously lost all faith in KORG.

sooo disappointed.

This can't even be considered anything NEW, not even an upgrade by today's standards. 32gig card, that's nice I guess, but we've survived long enough with, what 128 megs max? It's just memory...

ugh.

I'm done!

FORSALE: KORG EMX (message me off list) I'm in the USA.
