I just got an electribe!

Post by woodswalker »

Hi! I'm the proud owner of a "new" used electribe that I just bought from a guy on Craigslist!! :D

The delay sounds and the arpeggiator are AMAZING.

There was no smart card with it. I wonder if I really need the smart card?

I hope that I can learn to use this with my Alesis Micron or my Yamaha MM6. I guess tomorrow will be the day to Experiment, then I'll be back with more questions.

You should get a smart media card or a XD card adapter. Eventually you will want to back up and save your songs and patterns.

You mean it doesn't have any memory at all? It won't save any of the patterns I create? :(

So how do I find a smart card? Can I buy it from Korg?
What is an XD card adapter?

The EMX and ESX sure have internal memory for patterns. On the ESX you will want to use a card to transfer samples from another piece of equipment or a PC. On both units you might want one to save backups of patterns, songs, etc.

Look here for cards: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... highlight=

OK, so there isn't a special smart card that will only work for the EMX? I can just google for a generic 'smart card' and it will fit?

Yes, although using an XD card adapter is far cheaper. I bought two XD card adapters at newegg.com for about $4 each and found 4 128 MB XD cards for $10 each at upgradenation.com .

Just make sure you buy 128MB cards - larger will not work.

The Electribes have internal memory, but eventually the cup will overfloweth - and you'll want to backup for safekeeping.

TIP: I spent a few minutes erasing the entire factory patterns and songs, then saved it onto the card called "BLANK.EMX". Now, every time I want to clear off the EMX and start a new project, I just load the blank file.

Congrats. i did the same thing lol. Right near the end of high school i was in study hall looking for drum machines on craigslist and traded an bass amp (different brand head and cabinet, bout 200 watts 250 or something) and bass, a mic, and a tape player.

It's pretty much my main instrument right now but it's still one of the funnest things i've ever used
