Problem reading SD card on computer

Hi, all. After owning my LE for many years, I just tried downloading my memory to an SD card. I formatted the card on the LE, and it says it recorded properly, but my computer's card reader says it's "unreadable media". Any ideas? Should I just get a MIDI-to-USB cable instead?

Thanks in advance.

A MIDI connection would not help you.

What exactly are you saving to the card?

Also, the LE takes SM (Smart Media) cards, not SD (Secure Digital) cards.

Oops, you're right, it's an SM card (I was thinking about my camera).

I'm just doing a "save all" to capture my current settings before trying to load new sounds.

I thought I could also do a MIDI dump to an editor program to capture the files. Won't that work?

If you're not using any user samples then a 'save all' isn't really necessary. a PCG file contains all of your Program, Combination, and Global settings, which is all you need to restore your settings. A save all will save user samples and other stuff too that if you haven't been using a media card before then you most probably aren't using (for example user samples have to be loaded every time at power on from a media card).

You could possibly dump your data to a computer over MIDI, but using the card is really the preferred method as it is easier to keep track of things and control what you load and save. you'd need an appropriate piece of software, I'm not entirely sure of the options.

Are you saying that the card doesn't work on the PC but does on the LE? are you sure you are plugging it into a SM slot and not a similar looking slot for something else? Does it show up in the computer at all when you plug it in?

You could also try formatting the card from the LE (it is a utility option in Media mode).

I gave up too easily! The third time I tried to read the card in my computer, it worked.

Thanks for your advice. I've become dissatisfied with the factory B3 sounds and am planning to load some posted at the Tritonhaven site.

Have you run across any 3rd party patches you'd recommend? I'm mostly interested in acoustic piano, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, B3, and brass (think Motown riffs).
