ES1 No sound...please help!

Post by Johnny2sox »

Hello,

I am new to the forum and have run into a "no sound" issue concerning my ES1 Electribe. I bought this ES1 (used) back in February and everything powered up and was working just fine through an amp. I haven't it played it much since then but I powered it up tonight (all lights were working/flashing) but it didn't produce any sound through headphones or amp. The machine was taken on an airplane in April and I kept it with me (not checked luggage) so it did go through x-ray machine...would this have messed it up? This is the first time I've turned it on since then. I do have the manual and have checked my connections...any answers?

Thank you,

Johnny

Yes, I bought it used; but, I have heard it working. It hasn't been powered up in 6 months or so, but has been in a controlled environment. All lights work and flash and there is an audible hum sound when the volume is turned up. Don't know what's wrong. I've tried different cords and amps.

Are you using a 9 volt adapter? Sometimes if you arent using the specified/required adapter malfunctions can occur.
Other than that, its hard to say what you get sometimes when you're dealing with used gear.

No, it's the actual Korg adapter that came with it. I'm pretty bummed, because I've heard it work before, but didn't take the time to get into it and now that I want to it seems inoperable. Any Korg techs out there?

Have same problem . . .

Post by karlwill »

Hey - I bought a used one, got it home and, despite it turning on and lighting up, I had no sound (same as you). At first I thought it there was something wrong with the output, but on further inspection, I found that (I'm pretty sure) all the presets were wiped out.

I've only heard that you can delete them manually, preset by preset, but the one I bought sat for a long time before I got it (as yours did), so maybe in the downtime some kinda bullshit happened.

I'm able to record new samples, and the demo songs are still programmed (but they only play my few recorded samples . . .).

I'm trying to figure this out, and I have a few options I think;
a | Maybe the presets are in there somewhere (kinda doubt it)
b | I (we) can buy a smartmedia card loaded with the presets (maybe?) from Korg
c | I can record all new samples, not really feasible
d | I can buy a new secondhand ES1 and a smartmedia card, load up presets, transfer them, sell one of the ES1s.

Let me know what you figure out!

Korg no sound

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. Any luck with your KORG? I haven't messed with mine since. Maybe if I leave it alone for another 6 months it will return to it's former self...haha! Perhaps I could try to at least record some samples with it and see if it is able to recall that. Let me know if you come up with any answers/solutions and best of luck with yours.

Your's sounds to me like its still in good working order. It just sounds to me like somebody wiped the presets clean like you stated. You said that you were able to sample, so everything should be alright. As for the presets, once their gone their gone! But you can download all of the original presets from the main Korg site if you look under "ES-1" support.

Hope that helps!!
