Direct box / Preamp ?

Hey guys,
My question basically broils down to "Does the R3 need a direct box when playing live? What about in the studio?"

I just bought a presonus tubepre and have the synth hooked into it right now to give it a little tube gain and as an active DI box. The manual for the tube pre says "Plugging a preamplified signal (line level) into the TubePRE is not recommended. " Does the r3 count as an instrument that has a preamp'd signal? Thanks in advance!

I've played the R3 in some live performances and in studio too. And without having 2 mono or 1 stereo DI, I used the preamps of the mixer or the interface audio. You can do it, but you need to put the level high enough.

It's better if you have a DI, the level that comes from the R3 is not too high.

Good luck

Levels that come from most keyboards are line level. I think the tubePre is designed for microphones, which are much lower than line level.

you just need a DI box or two.
