Expression Pedal

Post by mocando »

Sadly in my country you can't get what you want, but what you can find. So I got myself a Roland EV-5 expression/volume pedal.

I've read around the forum that the pedal doesn't work right away with Korg keyboards, that you have to swap wires inside. I have no problem with that.

BUT I would like to know if someone have the same pedal and hear if they successfully made it to work with the M50 or M3 (I think the electronics should be the same). Otherwise I won't bother to modify it, and simply ebay it back.

Many thanks
Martin Ocando

IT WORKED!!! No soldering iron whatsoever. I don't know what Korg did with the M50, but the Roland EV-5 pedal worked flawlessly right away.

I'd been using an EV-5 with the M3, but noticed that all the control was at the "up" end of the range; there wasn't much (if any) difference between "all the way down" and "halfway up"...not very useful, for example, for organ volume control...so I plugged in a Yamaha FC7 and it was much better, much more linear control...I really didn't expect the FC7 to work at all, since Yamaha and Korg half-damper sustain pedals are incompatible...

Well, I only tested it a few seconds, but now that you mention it, I did noticed that kind of response from the middle point to down. I'll see if I can tweak it better tonight.

Sadly I haven't found the Yamaha, but I've also heard that it works better and is better built, so once I find it, I'll get it.

Cheers

I've had a Korg CX-3 (V2) organ that came with a fabulous expression pedal, labeled Korg. After some research I found out that the pedal was made by Yamaha, and I think it's the one you are talking about. The CX-3 had an option to adjust several parameters within the pedal and I don't know if the M50 has those as well.

The Yamaha FC7 is probably the best expression pedal out there (especially for the price). I own like 4 or 5 of them and they are great. Korg USED to sell the exact same pedal (only difference: it said Korg instead of Yamaha) but they no longer do.

*BUT*

I'm now using the Behringer FCB1010 (with UNO mod) with NO pedals now. 10 Pedals with 2 expression is great. The top 5 are my "emergency" go to patches - piano, organ, lead, analog-like brass/strings pad, and EP. The bottom 5 are damper, portamento, susteneto, SW1 and SW2. Pedal 1 is for Expresson (CC#4) and the second pedal is for master volume (CC#7). It controls all of my synths live.

I love it...

Looks awesome. But that is overkill to me right now. Maybe in a few years. Right now I need to control volume. I'll give the FC7 a good look around here.

Cheers

fcb1010 is the answer,,
fcb1010 can do anything that you want..
i use 2 pedals of fcb1010 to control all korg AMS. to control master volume, whammy fx, portamento, wah2, filter (cut off, release, egs, reso), amp ( attack, decay, etc), sustain, and all modulation.
with 10 assignable preset programs, i can jump from combi/prog 1 to another..

you need to try it friends..

Well, the Korg EXP2 would be available most places around the world, I''m sure. Sorry about Venezuela...!

I've also had good results with the Behringer FCV100 expression pedal. Sturdy, and good amount of "play" for organ swells, etc.

Well, one thing that is driving me crazy is having the M-Audio Exp and the Damper and Switch pedals slipping all around the floor. In fact i'm designing a DIY plate with rubber feet to hold all pedals in one place. So if is heavier that the M50 itself, is a good idea.

VERY good idea Mocando...I have the LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE also for my bass guitar..I'll check the manual and see if I can use it as a midi controller too! has tons of controls and switches too..but once again line 6 pod x3 live is a big pedal too...but the metal plate with rubber feet is a very good idea!,this Lexicon mpx r1 is heavierd than my mother in law!
