Zero 8 hiss solution

I tried reaching Korg about hiss problem, this is what ive been told: "Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the ZERO8. We found that most people experiencing noise on their setup had it as a result of their gain staging. In many instances we found that users were running their Master Volume about ½ way up (if that) and then cranking their amplification system. The way that it should be set is such that the Master Volume is set minimally 75% of the way up to maximize the signal coming out of the mixer as well as setting the gain on each input such that each channel is providing as loud of a signal at its peak level without clipping. After setting these levels, the levels on the amplification system should be adjusted accordingly. This will minimize all noise at both the mixer stage and at other points in the signal path. I hope this is of assistance.

Best regards,

its ok if you always have control of your amplication system, which is NOT true in the DJ world and club world

If I set my PA amp (t.amp TA1400 MK-X) at even 10-15% then I get the hiss, I can even hear it when all i have connected is my firewire connection (when I record the master back to the PC; using output from 1/2 on Zero8 into Ableton)

I hear it on the recording, meaning it has nothing to do with my Amp

hiss

Fir any interested parties,m I had my Zero8 updated which cost me $700 USD. I asked the guy for the test results and bd checks, and the xlr output werea little bit quieter but nothig major. Hiss is still there. So now, I bought Cordial crystal cables that cost me 400usd each, and I go s/p dif out from zero8 and there is no hiss at all. Problem is its very quiet. Compared to volumes on my rme fireface, at the same levels rme is much louder. Its a shame

I am shopping for a used Zero 8, but after reading through these forums I am hesitant. Are there still hiss and meter problems? Does the described volume solution work? I will be using this in a small home studio.

I would recommend the Zero 8 for a home studio. I have been very happy with mine for several years.

The hiss issue is simply a factor of incorrect setup with your monitors. If you run the mixer as intended and set up the monitors appropriately, you will have no problems.

OK, I placed an order with Musicians Friend for a Zero8. They have a 30 day return, so I can check it out without much risk. They also price matched the djdeals.com price of $839. Bad news is it is backordered until Oct 10.
