so i was just learning some simple synth songs (enter shikari ) and i use my ipod dock as an amp then i went to have some food so i disconnected the leads.

when i returned i made the mistake of putting the ipod dock lead into the microKorg's power input, a loud bang then a lot of gray smoke came out the back and now it wont switch on.

Has this happend to anyone before if so can you advise me what to do
also ...... the ipod dock is 18 volts where as the mk lead is only 9V

as with most hardware problems, sounds like you'll probably need to take it to an engineer to be repaired. either a qualified engineer or keyboard tech or a KORG service centre will do this for you.
considering that it was technically your fault, I expect it will cost you...

first just open and look for anyhting burnt or blown... if nothing

check out the capacitors right by the power jack.. They are about 4 $ to replace.. I would just start running down the line on the left side of the board where the power comes in..

theres the 2 capacitors, should have approx 10v on a meter

then a chip that says 85, (10v) then a black square with 3 prongs and one cut in the middle (voltage regulator) I think the power is 10v one leg then 6v on the other
then it goes to the 2 small silver canister looking things.. these are 3.33 v

you could try to replace all this yourself for around $10 getting the parts from an online electronics vendor..

if it doesn't work, then your out 10$ and you learned something

everything is in dc volts...


Although I'm rather amatuer at this I did just solve a power issue on my unit HORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, just had a near identical problem as a result of using an American Power Supply connected (via adapter) to an Australian power outlet. If you manage to find a solution can you post it here?

-edit- Solution to getting the keyboard to work with the CORRECT power supply/outlet combination, that is. I don't plan on using that one again
