Kaossilator - PC integration recommendations

Post by doktordavid »

Hi...

Just received my Kaossilator - it worked right out of the box, so I am already very happy. =] How to use it is the next task at hand. In parallel to that effort I'd also like to start recording, in a way to keep track of my learning experience.

Hardware: HP Pavilion laptop, dv7, 2.93 GHz Centrino 2, 8 GB RAM, plenty of near line storage - over 6 TB's available - I'm a dedicated amateur photographer and video producer. Audio I am afraid is pretty plain jane, IDT High Definition Audio, whatever that means. Lots of USB ports, all over used and abused; would prefer to utilize the under-utilized 1394 if that helps.

OS: Vista 64bit

Looking for hardware/software combination that meets the initial goal of capturing whatever I produce, with the eventual target of producing my own beats/music/morass in support of my own video work.

Your thoughts are appreciated... thanks, in advance.

probably your cheapest option for getting high quality audio into a computer hardware/software solution would be getting pro tools LE, which comes with an mbox mini 2 which has 2 1/4 audio ins and 2 1/4 audio outs which go to monitors or a mixer. assuming you already have some good speakers you could do it for about $300.

pro tools lets you record and chop up audio and all that stuff, not my favorite thing to work with but it may come with ableton lite too i don't remember.

i'm pretty sure if you want good quality you're going to need to sacrifice at least one usb port but you also want an external to record audio to at high speed, firewire helps for that.

just out of interest: what hardware/software setup do you use for recording and chopping up audio?
