Is it possible to make sound effects like gun shots, getting hit, getting slashed?
I am working on a video game and the only useful sound fx I seem to be able to get out of it is explosions and lasers.
Any good tips or steps that I need to do to get the sounds I want?

Thanks

Yes, almost anything can be reproduced by the synth engine or sampling.

I've make quite a number of sound effects for http://fxhome.com/sounds/
You might like to check them out, especially the matrix sounds as I've generated guns and bullet time effects using just a Triton at the time.

Feel free to use any of SFX hosted on that site also if you like.

Your sfx are pretty good.
Still would be good if I knew how it works.
Do you know of any good tutorials on how to program your own?

Thanks

Hello.

Learning synthesis & sampling is the main starting point. There's many books and websites where you can download tutorials on the basics of synthesis, so you could try starting there. There's no quick fix here, it is going to take you a long time to be able to do all this if you have no experience in sound design.

Taking something like a Saw Wave and turning it into a LightSaber is no easy task.

Guns and weapons are easier however because they are more based around sampling than anything else. For example, messing around with the pitch of drum sounds will get you close. Using resampling you can then mix sounds together to fatten up the sounds and get the mix right.

Pitch is something you will use a lot. If you listen to the Bullet Time sounds I uploaded, 99% of all that is the same sound at different pitches.
