DTR-1000 Mute problem

I have a DTR-1000 (rack mount tuner) which I've used for some years without problem. Other than one of the LED display segments going out, that is. It has started making quite a pop when muting. Very annoying. It's variable, sometimes louder than other times. I read elsewhere someone had this with a DTR-2000 and solved it by putting the tuner in the effects loop. But, my bass amp doesn't have that.
Any suggestions?
Anyone have the schematic or know how I can get it?
As long as I'm posting ... let me know if you're in N.E.Ohio and need a bass player!
