Moving M1 songs to M3

I have 20 years worth of recorded songs on the M1 that I'd really like to move to my new M3. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this so I'll have a lot of questions. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Okay, here we go ...
My first big problem is that unless I wish to re-record all the drum tracks for the songs, I need a drum program that is equivalent to the one I used on the M1. I have thought of 2 ways that I might do this, but does anyone have a better suggestion than the following?
1) create a "matching" drum kit from the M3 sounds
2) sample the M1 sounds and use them to create a drum kit
For the first option, I need some serious help with creating new drum kits. There is very minimal help in the manuals. Nothing really explains how the kit sounds were assembled from the samples (i.e. why all sounds are a combination of at least 2 multisamples). It's not clear to me what all the parameters are that can be changed, and what effect modifications to those parameters will have. Can anyone help me out here?
For the second option, I need some advice about bringing in external samples. Does anyone know if it's possible to access the sounds directly as digital samples somehow? I do have the Legacy Edition of the Korg as software on the PC. In Cubase, I have access to these sounds as VST plugins. Does anyone know if there is there a way to get those sounds directly into the M3? I also used Steinberg's Halion to sample the Korg sounds and bring them in to Cubase that way. Does anyone know if I can transfer Halion samples to the M3?
