Your Favourite Acoustic Piano Sound on the M50?

Hi, guys!
I've been going through the acoustic piano sounds and it's making me miss my old Motif 6. :-)
Any suggestions?
I'm looking for just a fat grand acoustic piano sound.
Thanks!

Try making a combi, mix programs A1 & A22. If you want more hammer attack, there was a program (I can't recall the Bank&#), that adds in nicely..

This combi, I'm not crazy about the top 2 octaves, but listen to the lower notes,,, they sound awesome! Live acrossed a strong PA,,, REALLY fills the room (IMO).

Of course you'll have to mix this together, add some reverb to you tastes, but it's a good start on your main piano combi.

My 2 favorites are both from pcgs from the Karma-Lab site user collection.

Natural Warm Grand & Thin Bright Piano (for cutting through the mix live)

Something I found about the default pianos is that the mid boost was always set at +3.0 by default which is good for cutting through the mix, but makes the sound very harsh in other circumstances IMO. Backing this off to 1.0 or zero takes away the harshness.

Fifth Element,

Thanks for the info. on the EQ idea!!!! I'll try that..

Oh, on my 1st post, I said A1,,, actually I meant A000 and A022...

But I WILL mess with EQing... GOod idea!!!!

I have yet to get a piano that I LOVE in the upper range.. My current main Combi sounds AWESOME in the lower registers, sounds real when live (except much louder!lol).

THANKS!

Ya, I hear what your talking about..

I LOVE my combi I made for a piano in lower register playing (which so far, has been the case).

But tonight we put on a song (Once Bitten Twice Shy), and the piano sound "dull" (if you know what I mean).

I need to brighten it up.. Reverb was not the ticket (made it worse),,, so ex-nay my suggestion on reverb!!

I'll mess with the EQ.. I don't know tho, I'm not feeling confident I can fix it with EQ.

Any suggestions would be AWESOME..
My present combi is A000 & A022. If your board, check it out, listen to the lower notes (they sound AWESOME in the mains, monitors, reference monitors), but from just above middle C up,,, I'm just not digging it..

Thanks in advance!!!

No problem, Mike - glad it worked for you!

Give the 2 patches I mentioned in the earlier post a try too. They are very different but both work well (for me anyway).

Strangely, I'm also getting to like the M3 Mono Piano. I don't normally like anything mono, but this patch just has ...... something, particularly for Blues stuff.

Ya, I was messing with that M3 mono program last night mixed into my combi (as in my main piano).

I'd LOVE to get a little more of the hammer strike (if you know what I mean). I have a better than average (well, probably a lot better) 1976 Everett Studio, nice hammers (no dents), nicely setup (I do some tuning/work in my spare time, just before the holidays mainly as EVERYONE wants their piano tuned for xmas). I would be VERY happy to duplicate that sound thru the mains, in every room we play, and out-doors, and in the studio.. Basically, I'd like to have the perfect piano out of my M50! LOL (Don't we all)..

DOn't take this the wrong way, not dogging on the M50 pianos, I believe if someone knows what they want, and knows how to tweak, they can make it happen.. I'm just not quite there yet!

Thanks Fifth Element!

I hope I can return the favor soon!

Hi!

I've been following this thread with great interest. However, I've been unable to locate the two piano programs fifth element mentioned (Natural Warm Grand & Thin Bright Piano).

I downloaded a .zip-file called CMTY_1.0 from the KARMA LAB forum. It contained a folder called CMTY_1.PCG, which contains a program folder containing two Banks (U-F and U-G).

This is where I start running into problems: I can only open folder Bank U-G which offers 53 programs (but not Natural Warm Grand & Thin Bright Piano!).
But I can NOT open folder Bank U-F - the OPEN option is simply not available. Am I doing something wrong?

I would really appreciate if someone could guide to getting my hands on the above-mentioned Piano programs.

Apologies for the confusion. They are actually in PRODUC88.pcg. Which is in the M3 update file M3_V120.zip from the Korg site not the KarmaLab site. PRODUCER.pcg is available if you have the M50-61.

Use the /programs folder (not Combis). It is the complete expanded M3 set so there will be some duplications but there is still loads of great new stuff. Just audition them when you open the folder and save the ones you like to the M50.

Hey - great news!

Thank you very much. I was able to locate the file M3_V111.zip which did the trick! Owning an M50-61, I opted for the PRODUCER.pgc instead of the PRODUC88.pcg. Hope I was right there.

Thanks again. What would life be like without this forum and the people here???
