I am looking closely at the M50 but have not bought one yet.

While it is great that there are so many Programs/Combi's I perhaps only care about 25% of them (max). I think this is fairly typical. However I can see no way to flag the sounds that I like or to save them to favorites.

Can someone help in this regard?

well you can search sound by category and define the names of the categories yourself, so just change one category name to "Favourites" for example and then resave all the presets in that category to other categories until you have a empty category. Then when you find a cool sound just resave it as it is but change its category to Favourites

In my opinion, this is probably the EASIEST part of the M50. And have two categories Im using for now (Remember, ANY or even ALL categories can be named by you, using sub categories however deep you want), One for my band, one for me.

This is NOT even close to an issue with the M50. It's like Windows on a computer. You can file it however you want!

But JUST LIKE A COMPUTER,,, Backup your settings regularly!!! I haven't had a problem with my M50, but if I ever do, I'll be good to go because I backup to an SD card daily...

OK Guys, I'm a newbie, and even though this topic has been discussed several times, this is still all so confusing to me! I would like to set up a FAVORITES place where I could see all my 16 different sounds at once on the screen. I tried to do just that, following your directions, and I lost some sounds. So now I have lost all confidence in my ability to go about setting up some favorites without losing more sounds. Could someone please explain in a "STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR DUMMIES" on how to do this. Remember, I'm not a technical person, so please keep it as simple as possible for someone who isn't too familiar with all the functions of the M50. By the way, the Korg M50 is not "...just like a computer..." because I have been using computers for many years and this is a whole different machine! Please help out. Thanks!

What do you mean, 'lost some sounds?' The only thing I can think you'd mean by that is that instead of just changing the category of a sound, you *also* changed its location, overwriting something that was already there.

okay... here is what you're supposed to do.
I tested the M50 yesterday at a local music store and found out that there is two user categories (user 16 and user 17).

1. Got to the Global mode and rename one of these user categories as "Favourites" (for example) (do this for both the program and combination mode categories)
2. When you come up with the sound that you would like to favourite go and WRITE the COMBINATION/PROGRAM (depending on which mode you're on) and change the category to "Favourites" and save. DON'T change anything else or you might save the program/combi to wrong location and overwrite some other important sounds.

This way the program or combi stays right the same and stays in the same location as before, but its category changes to favourites and you can find it in the favourites category from this on. Just remember that when you change the category you can't find the sound anymory from the category that it was originally in. For example if you do this to a program called The M50 Grand piano (or something like that it was) you can't find it in the "keyboard" category anymore but in the "favourites" category instead.
