It's hard to believe this hasn't been asked before; if it has I was unable to find it. What is the best option for backing up your Triton Studio hard drive?

In the past I've used the CD drive, but the amount of data on my hard drive has gotten to the point where I have to use multiple CDs and it gets messy. So I figured maybe to get an external SCSI drive and hook it up to the SCSI connector on the back panel. Unfortunately, this leads me into a circular cul-de-sac. The manual advises (PG, page 298) to contact my Korg Distributor for a "list of recommended drives". Sounds easy, right? No! Korg's website, www.korg.com, informs me my distributor is Korg USA. The link takes me right back to www.korg.com.

Any comments on either the general question of backup options, the specific question of suitable SCSI drives, or anywhere between would be most appreciated.

The easiest way I know to back up the hard drive is to get a USB to SCSI converter which will let your PC see the TS internal hard drive. From there you can drag and drop to a PC drive.

Wow, this is turning out to be even more complicated yet. The manual (System Version 2.0 V2, p. 56) warns to "Use only a recommended SCSI-USB conversion adapter. For a list of recommended models, refer to the Korg website or contact your Korg distributor."

This looks like no trivial matter given the multiplicity of SCSI and USB flavors extant. Yet at the Korg website/distributor such a list of recommendations remains ever elusive. Futhermore, my search suggests that few if any vendors of such SCSI-USB adapters have any in stock.

This is all especially baffling since the Triton has been a big success and there must be thousands of owners out there that have vital data they can't risk losing in the event of a hard disk crash. One gets the feeling there must be some commonly used solution he is missing. Is this really such an obscure issue or am I just just barking up the wrong tree?

There is a thread from Dec 11 "SCSI to USB Cable Vista works" where Luis discovered that the "U2SCX USB2.0 to Ultra SCSI Converter from Ratoc Systems" works.

It probably wouldn't be the ideal answer for every TS afficionado, but what ultimately worked for me (in case anyone else might find it useful) was to install a SCSI card in my PC and connect the TS to it as a target. I happened to have one I'd gotten with a scanner that also was the same SCSI format as the TS connection. Worked like a charm.
