OASYS CDWriter is a DVD-ROM also

Hi all.

This subject came up on another thread and peter m. mahr corrected me when I made a reference to the drive on the OASYS being a CD-Writer by telling me it was actually able to read DVD's also. I could have sworn that it wasn't but after verifying what Peter said, I have to wonder how many other people here did not know.

I've checked 3 official websites, USA, UK and Germany and they all very clearly state it's a CD-Writer. The drive itself even says on the front its a CD-Writer. So nowhere is there any mention of the drive being a DVD-ROM/CD-Wrtier, but yet it is.

If I was a betting man I would have lost my shirt on that one :-)
I was totally convinced it would not read a DVD as I knew the Spec given by KORG off by heart.

So how about you ?. Did you know ?.
Be honest now :-) I don't want to stand on my own as a fool

Regards.
Sharp.

"I don't want to stand on my own as a fool"

Sharp, you're not alone. Not quite being foolish, we just believed the specs provided. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I think this saying says it all.

-This is going to be so helpful... to actually see to my homemade love-making scenes, while composing music to them as the scenes cresendo and decresendo ...figuratively speaking of course.

Honestly, this is news to me...I had no idea...I'm betting 97% or more of Oasys owners had no idea...

Thanks Sharp!!

Hello all,

As noted in the documentation, the specification is subject to change without notice. Some OASYS keyboards shipped with an internal CD-R/RW drive; others shipped with a DVD/CD-R/RW combo drive. Regardless of the hardware, only CD-R/RW functionality is officially supported.

Best regards,

Dan

Thanks for that Dan.

Seem then the loading instructions for my library should focus on transferring the data to a memory stick as the primary method for loading the data, and to have on the bottom the possibility of some OASYS keyboards being able to read directly from the DVD.

Very useful info.

Regards.
Sharp.

 Well, I just tried my Karo KGP disc with 1,62 Gb of data. My Oasys reads the disc without problems. So I must be one of the lucky ones :D

Yup my O 88 can read dvd's as well. Although I didnt actually try opening or copying a file on there, as all I had to hand when I remembered to check was good old Mike Conway's Unofficial OASYS DVD and when I put that in the drive and did a scan it picked up the proper DVD file structure, so I presume that it reads DVD's ok :) Also my O88 has a slighly later serial no, so whether that is an indication that the later produced keyboards had DVD readability..possibly.

Look forward to getting your Library when its done Sharp, and also will have to get around to buying some of the Karo DVD's too :)

It's like the drive in the white MacBook Dual 2.0GHz - reads CDs/DVDs but writes only CDs.
