Was there ever a Korg M2? If not, why?

Sorry to annoy, but does anyone know WHY?

the second generation of korg workstation were trinity and triton lines (but not called m2)

so m3 is the third generation (m1 and T series and finally 01W series were the first)

I don't put oasys in these lines because it has its own category and price line...

Actually, I have the only M2 ever made - it's incredible, it does EVERYTHING anyone has ever asked of us in a keyboard.

And it's all mine, bwa ha ha!!!



Ok, seriously - we were going to call the current model M2, but I for one felt so much time had passed and so much innovation had happened since the M1 that I wanted the name to reflect that. So we skipped 2 to make a point.

And, it gets people talking, which is always a good thing.

PS My thanks for M3 Expanded OS, and over 300 Mbytes of sample sounds you've provided. I'm very happy with my recent purchase of M3 and Radias. As you know I also have a Pa2x which leads me to ask ...

Would it be acceptable use of the .KEP files in M3 Expanded OS release if users of the Korg Pa2x/ Pa800 were to load those samples onto their keyboards? I think the .KEP files are compatible aren't they?

Strange how the nomenclature of the models go, though.
M1, M3, M50!

And the M50 is an "M3 LE".

My guess: the M50 got its name because it has just 50% of the features/capabilities of a M3.

Well as everyone knows, Korg hired a Greek musician to join the development team for the "original" M1. Now, the Greek equivalent to the english letter M is the letter "mi" or μ.

Also at the same time, Abba were in Greece making the film "Mama Mia" where of course the Greek word "Mia" or μια means "number one" - it is in fact the feminine declension of the masculine word for the "number one" which is "Ena" or ενα. So the Abba film "Mama Mia" actually means "Number 1 Mum".

And the Greek letter μ actually can be used as an abbreviation for either the feminine form of the word "number 1" μια or for the other Greek work "my" which is μεα or "mea" as in "mea culpa" in which the Romans used the same word.

So what we have here is a Greek person on the development team, heavily influencing the nomenclature of the first major workstation to be produced by Korg. So the conclusion this Greek guy had was that by calling the keyboard "M1" he was thinking "My number 1" and hence the letter M was chosen.

Actually, I haven't got a clue, and what I just wrote is fiction, but I hope you enjoyed the little joke

I personally don't like synths with numbers of any sort in their name.
For example, why buy an M3 when you just KNOW that in a few years time Korg will make you drool over an M4? And an M5 later on...
They get "outdated" by nomenclature primarily, (psychological effect, really) and by features second.

Also, why buy an M50 when not too long from now, they're gonna make an M60 which makes your M50 drop in value severely?

Which is why names like Korg Trinity, Korg Karma, Korg Triton Extreme, Korg TR, and Korg Oasys have a better place in our hearts, no?

ok but after triton series you will know that if you buy a workstation called e.g. TRIxxx (xxx = place any combination of letters you like) then you will have the TRIxxx Extreme that would be a little bit better and the also the TRIxxx LE that would be a light version of the powerful TRIxxx and maybe there would be also the low budget Tx series
