Yeah actually! I made a Dubsteppish style song the other day. Just used a constant looping 4 bar pattern, seen as I was just experimenting. A few friends of mine and myself did actually enjoy the track surprisingly! Used the KP3 to make some nice effects on it mind. Have you made anything yet?

I did a dubsteppish tune in my last liveset with the EMX, you can listen to it here:

Starts around 11:31. Note the drum sounds are all Machinedrum, but everything else is EMX.

the bass wobble is all about filter modulation... instead of wasting your time making static modulated filters, I would highly suggest practicing recording motion sequences where you manually do the wobble. It will sound much more dynamic and organic.

THe kp3 can store more then 4 samples you can only play four samples at a time though.

It's definitely all about the motion sequences, try using unsynced LFO's too, so they aren't always the same sounding each bar.

awesome,
thanks guys. ill play around with this when i get home.
i like the 140 bpm tempo cut in half to get the jump up kinda feel.

i know this is a tribe forum, but a quick one about the kp3. can i load samples from a sd card while in a live set? this would make my music more expandable without having to buy a sampler.......

another question.....

im going to be getting a sampler soon. should i get the esx or a roland sp 404 keeping in mind that i wand to chop ragga vocals to add to the dubplate.....anyone with some input would be great!

ive been listening to alot of caspa & rusko and skream. anyone else got any good tunes that i could listen to?

thanks guys

well depends.... either one should be fine for short chopped vocals.... the sp404 will probably be your better option for that.... however do keep in mind the you'll be able to do a lot more with the emx+esx together then you will with emx+sp404 and emx+esx work together MUCH better.

if your doin dubstep, you need to check out Burial. he is my main influence when it comes to that type of music. i would recomend the UNTRUE album. great stuff bro, enjoy it.

Word of advice, don't do what others do, bend your rules and make your own stuff. A lot of dubstep and most other styles of music today sounds the same.... you gotta dig deep to unknown names and tunes to find the good stuff because mainstream is everyone trying to rip each other off.....

just do this, make a half step break beat and go from there. Don't even think about what others are doing...

Here's an example of a phenomenal set of original compositions.

This guy plays his own tracks. Truly original, and truly professional sounding. Just about all of his mixes you'll listen to over and over and they won't be boring.

You can't go wrong with the Dubstep All Stars compilations, especially #'s 5 & 6. Seriously great tracks on those, by the likes of Benga, Applebim, Peverlist, 2562, and many more top dubsteppers. Burial has a unique sound and very few dub step artists sound like him. I like Untrue. It's kind of like a dubstep concept album.
