how many of you use your electribe with a kp3?

that's what I'm trying to do but I'm having problems connecting them. I tried using MIDI going out of the kp3 into the emx and then the emx into my mbox which then goes to my speakers. but when I change the effects on the kp3 it chages the pattern that i'm using on the emx. ??
does anyone have any tips? i'm a really noob on the kp3 and getting better with the emx. a friend of mine sold me his but he sold it to me because he didn't know how to use it haha. i have the manual but i'm more of a visual learner. are their any video tutorials out there i might benefit from seeing?

That's what it's supposed to do when you hook it up that way.
Try hooking the audio outputs of the EMX to the audio input of the KP3. Then hook the audio outputs of the KP3 to powered speakers, or listen with headphones. Notice there's no midi involved with this setup. Midi is not audio. Remove the midi connection for now until you actually need it for a specific purpose, after you learn what it does.

my kp3 seems to have a short latency, so if i record a loop, when it switches to playing back i still hear the original (how do i get rid of that) and i also hear the very slightly delayed loop from the kp3, which causes a VERY obvious phasey/flangy effect.
a quick tutorial on how to go from the live output of the emx to a recorded loop without obvious artifacts would be most welcome.

the latency depends on how accurate you are able to press the sampling buttons...

o.k. it's clear you won't get a 100% timing and even if you could, you would hear a doubled sound (the sampled playback and your soundsource).
so, what i usually do is:
start sampling the phrase i like to capture.
in the moment when the sampled phrase will start playing back automatically, i simply switch the line/mic-switch from line to mic, all input to the kp3 will be cut off and only the sampled phrase will be audible...
-> no phasing/flanging effect.
give it a try!

I will try your suggestion, but it doesn't seem to me to address the problem directly. I have a similar result by using the KP as a send, and stopping the dry signal from leaving my mixer directly. The KP only makes noise when its sample is playing. However, this again leaves me with the responsibility of hitting a button at the exact right time, otherwise i get silence at the end of the loop, or an overlap (a flammy kick is the usual result). Irritating.
The latency i mention with the KP does not seem to depend on when i press the sampling button, as it appears to be a constant. As the KP is synced with midi it knows when the bar starts, and so as long as i press the sample button a little bit early, it will start recording on the start of the bar. I can be quite sloppy and get the exact same results each time, so it is not my sample triggering that is a problem, it is a latency with either the midi sync, or the KPs audio
I am very surprised that there does not seem to be a seamless way to have the KP go from playing live audio into playing a loop. I think I'll bring this up on the KP forum

Another fix would be to sample the electribe with the KP fader down at minimum volume, and then after the sample starts playing (i.e. sample bank button turns from green to amber) fade it in slowly. You could fade the 'tribe out while you're doing this.
Now that OS 2.0 is out you can set sample volumes to zero and fade them in when you like...could also work though I haven't tried it

I always run my EMX and ESX into my KP3s ... seems to work better that way for me ...
Also, if your KP3 is causing program changes on your beat thang, make sure those MIDI filters are enabled/disabled on KP3 and your 'Tribe ... It's under the MIDI settings ... Took me a while to get used to that but it does work ...
The way I have my MIDI setup running is ....
Fan-X —> EMX-1 —> ER-1 —> ESX-1 —> KP3a (EMX) —> KP3b (ESX)
... the only things being controlled on KP3s are tempo ...
