Transferring EMX files onto PC using SmartMedia?

I have tried using the function regarding how to directly transfer EMX files onto my PC, but ordered and received my 128MB SmartMedia card after reading related topics. The information gathered from searching the Electribe forums has been that I cannot directly load songs created on the EMX with my patterns onto my PC. Although, I do not understand how this data is actually saved in particular onto my SmartMedia card. I was trying to save my data from the EMX onto my SmartMedia tonight after reading the manual over and over again while studying discussions found with the search function. The Save-All function was used and other procedures were performed as described by the manual, but it does not seem my data was received onto my SmartMedia correctly as no sound files were found after opening Audacity and discovering no sound patterns. What is the basic procedure for saving certain patterns used for my songs onto the SmartMedia card and then transferring them onto my PC using the SmartMedia input which is already installed in my computer? Also, what free programs do I use for opening these saved SmartMedia file once placed onto my PC? I am looking to open my patterns and then save them as wav. files because my audio editing software (GoldWave) will put my patterns into the proper sections of the song. My created song will be sent into my 8 track recorder as a wav. file via USB cable and then record my guitar parts onto one of my 8 tracks then send my guitar track back onto the computer for final editing/song completion. Any suggestions?

you can´t do it

your EMX doesn´t save any AUDIO file at all

It just save the programming data for songs, patterns, synths and FX settings...NO AUDIO

also it´s all in a propietary format, nothing that a common program could open

maybe someone could reverse engineering the file and develope a software who can open it and make some edition work as order patterns, import/export standard midi files, edit motion sequences in a graphic enviorment and see pattern data.

But due to the nature of the audio engine of the EMX you´ll never see any kind of audio data in it´s files

So you are basically saying that I cannot put the EMX patterns into a wav. file onto my computer and upload it like normal into my recorder from what I am understanding. How do I even upload my EMX patterns onto my PC from the SmartMedia card so I can share them online or edit them using software?

You can't edit them at all on the PC, as the other poster mention they are in a proprietary data format similar to sysex. It's not audio data at all, just a backup of all the pattern and song data currently in your EMX. If you save all to the card, then look at the card's contents on your computer (finder, or windows explorer) you'll see they are files named "something.emx". The only real reason to transfer this file to your computer is for backup purposes, so you could restore your EMX's contents later on should something happen to your EMX's memory or you lose the card.

Please tell me if I am just misunderstanding/wrong, but I cannot put the music created on my EMX onto my computer even just to listen or share online? If this is the truth, then it looks like I must unfortunately return this beautiful piece of equipment because it was purchased thinking it would produce synth and drums (which is does wonderfully) then simply adding my guitar lines after synth/drums were complete.

Also, I planned on exporting the EMX created song from my computer into my recorder that imports tracks and just overdub guitar over the EMX track then sent it back onto my computer for final production.

You just need to treat it like any other hardware synth and record it via your soundcard to the music software of your choice. The SmartMedia card has nothing to do with this, it is for data backup only.

how come you can't just plug the EMX directly into the 8-track recorder you mentioned?

Thats how it would normally be done. You set it to record the output L and R channels, Then run your patterns. I can't see whats wrong with that. I also don't think there's any piece of gear which does do that.

The point of the smartmedia card is more for storing, organising, reloading your patterns (and samples?).

I guess you just have to think of the EMX the same as your Guitar... and that is as a musical instrument.

How do you "put the music created on your guitar into your computer even just to listen or share online?"

Once you have that answer repeat with the EMX. :) They are both instruments.
