I'm thinking of going for this one http://www.wsinspire.com/cameras-camcor ... /#review-3
You can get a bundle on amazon with memory and a case.Is there anything else worth checking out before i do?I haven't found anything that offers as much and the sound quality is apparently exceptional.

haha
sorry i dont have any help on the situation
i use a canon gl2 but i think thats a little over the budget

I read that the audio quality is really good which is my main concern.Doesn't have to be brilliant just do a good job of recording the sound of the emx etc. I have need of the other functions of the camera so i hope the mic is good.
I posted over at kvr as well and someone (beej) suggested recording the audio into my daw and syncing the video to that which aint a bad idea anyway, home made music videos

I don't know much about formats and conversions,i know live can import video but what i would i need to get large AV files onto the web?Are there mp4 converters like there are for mp3 that will convert the different formats? What software would i need?Cheers!

I haven't read all your questions, but you're looking for a camera with high sound quality. But I hope you don't intend to record your set mainly with the onboard camera...? Drop the signal from the mixer to an MD or any other portable recorder. To record the cheers of the crowd I would set up some microphones at the sides of the stage and somehow let the MD record them, so that they don't go out to the main PA.
Sometimes it's hard to write what you mean in english. I hope you understand.

No, re the mic i want to record myself playing in my bedroom so i can get some vids up on youtube. So as long as the mic is good enough for that great. It was hard to make a decision but the DV007 has a lot of other features that i can use.Shame it has no AV in as that would give me the best quality.I don't know enough about the alternatives for the same price but they seem to have the same spec. Some have things like low light modes for recording at night,AV in/out and usb 2 but the video quality is crap...
As for live use i was just thinking of using it to film the crowd to put footage up online but the md idea is great, hadn't crossed my mind. One place i know they have an md player as part of the pa so i can get them to record the audio and i could get another md to record the crowd.
Nice tips,thanks

Alright... But even if your recording at home I suggest you record the sound separately. I'm surfing on the phone now, so I haven't checked your links out, but unless you're not aiming for the more pricier alternatives, the onboard microphones are usually crap. You get too much of the room ambience and the lower frequencies often mess the recording up.
If you want your viewers to hear what your song is really like, record the sound separately and mix it together with the video afterwards.
The video quality ain't that important. I use the built-in video mode on my Olympus C-765UZ, and it works fine.
But if you're gonna shoot live, It's a different matter.
Glad to help!

When I made my video I recorded the video with my C-765UZ and the sound on the Zoom H4. I imported the video and sound files into Windows Movie Maker, synced them together and made a nice edit. It's as simple as that.musikmachine wrote:I posted over at kvr as well and someone (beej) suggested recording the audio into my daw and syncing the video to that which aint a bad idea anyway, home made music videos

Here's what the camera comes with:
Digital Camera- 6MP Max (Interpolated). Excellent picture quality, easy to operate, allowing you to enjoy taking photographs.
Digital Camcorder - Uninterrupted sound filmaking. Advanced MPEG4 technology application, recording with 30 fps, without visual halt.
MP3 - Stereo with lyrics displayed synchronously
MP4 - Via high resolution 2.0 inch LTPS LCD display, enjoy your favourite film
Voice Recording - Professional voice recorder, WAV format. 32kbs (ADPCM 8khz 8 bits), built-in speaker
USB mass storage - Built-in 16M flash memory (12M vacant), match with expandable SD/MMC card slot to realise portable storage function
Web-Cam - Connected using stand (standard accessory) to make the webcam-picture clearer than traditional web-cams
It comes with 2GB SD and a case for £120 so a good deal imo,be great for travelling

There's only a few reviews but they are very good.I'm beginning to think the audio issue is not so important and i will most likely get something else to capture record the audio.Something like the zoom H4 would cover a lot of application so i'd probably get that instead of an md player...
All i can do is try the camera when i get it!One of the reasons i need it is so i can send clips to friends of mine that run various nights and see if they would want me to play or book me so for that the quality doesn't need to be pristine, just not terrible.
Nice video by the way.How are you recording the audio?Via the mic or the cables?Quality is really good,it 'sounds' live to me.Really like the track as well, you should get that released

one word of advice on cameras.... a lot of those pocket digital camcorders allow you to use themas a webcam. The thing is, it works MUCH faster then a webcam and you can record higher quality and larger format videos with direct audio input onto your computer. This way you have more room then a card and you don't have to worry about transferring or re encoding because you can usually encode to a codec of your choice.

Are you saying route audio into my daw or get a camera with AV out?I'm not sure what you mean about a webcam. Are you suggesting i get a different camera?Which one?Ruso wrote:one word of advice on cameras.... a lot of those pocket digital camcorders allow you to use themas a webcam. ExcellentRuso wrote:no, what I'm saying is that you plug in your camera through usb to your computer... most of them you can use as webcams so find some webcam recording software. You can directly record the video from your camera onto your computer.

I had no idea about that.It sounds like the solution i need for converting formats, all i need is to be able to export to .mov so i can edit in live.Looks like i chose the right camera. What about webcam software,or does it matter?
Hopefully i'll be able to put some videos up soon!
Thanks ruso
