I am new to this forum but a long time synth user.

I have a question regarding how the Radias store timbres.

Here is my delima. I created a program and set each timbre to a different midi channel. When I sent midi program (timbre) changes it will change the timbre but not as I would expect.

In other synths, my SQ80 for example, I can setup a multi timbral sequence/patch/program/whatever and send program changes to each channel and I know which specific timbre will be recalled.

With the Radias it seems there is some method or order but I don't understand it as the the programs are not individual timbres but rather a collection of up to 4.

If I were to create several timbres in various programs how would they be mapped, that is how would I know that midi program change number 110 will recall a specific timbre?

Is there some order that I just don't understand or am I missing something???

Read page 147 in the manual!!!

MIDI can only select 128 patches with a program change message, so the concept of banks was added. A bank select message is sent prior to a program change message (some devices simplify this by asking you to specify the bank when sending program changes).

Programs use banks 0-0 (first 128, A01 to H16) and 0-1 (last 128, I01 to P16). Program changes to these banks select the entire program (all timbres).

If you want to change just one timbre in the program:

Timbre 1 of each program is located in banks 32-32 and 32-33.

Timbre 2 of each program is located in banks 32-34 and 32-35.

Timbre 3 of each program is located in banks 32-36 and 32-37.

Timbre 4 of each program is located in banks 32-38 and 32-39.

Drum kits are in bank 32-64.

Let's say you are using Program A01 and want to have timbre 3 use timbre 2 from Program J12. On the MIDI channel for timbre 3, send a bank select of 32-35 and then a program change of 28.

Ok, I saw that in the manual but it was late and didn't make sense then...

Its making more sense to me now. I will have to create a .MIDNAM file for my sequencer (Digital Performer) to configure it to select banks in the Radias.
