Should be a HOT seller for sure.

So nice to see AKAI making these things. Just hope that someday they release a hardware sampler that supports streaming.

Regards.

I have never owned an AKAI product so I am confused regarding the MPC series.

Is it true that the MPC products really just support "phrase" or "individual note" sampling, e.g. a loop or note assigned to a pad?

Can the MPC series load/play AKAI sample libraries? I get confused given I own a few AKAI sample libraries but never owned an AKAI sampler.

Hi Martin.

The MPC 4000 had the ability to load AKAI Libraries just like a Z Series sampler, so I assume this one is the same.

Although in saying that, I'm not exactly sure why AKAI named this the MPC5000 when it's technically a step backwards in a few areas. The biggest being FAR less memory.

Not sure why AKAI went back using a smaller screen too ?.
Maybe they should have called it the MPC 3999 or something :-) I can't see MPC 4000 owners buying one.

Regards.

MPC5000

Post by jon@alesis »

Hello,

I'm no expert having just seen it, but the 5000 is a completely new system from a different design team to the 4000, it doesnt have the Z4/8 sampler built in. It will play older MPC files but I dont think it will play S1000 etc like the 4000 did It does however have 24 bit 8 track recorder mainly because the idea of using an MPC is appealing to those guys who want to be creative without a computer but then, er, had to use a computer to finish the track off! It has all new FX, 80 GB drive with 750 mb of loopmaster samples in as standard. Yes a three voice, 300 preset VA that does sound impressive and USB2. Lastly is has 960 ppq which is ten times the others in the range. MPC4000 is officially dead now.

regards

Jon

IMO, the new MPC5000 is trying to compete, if not, excel the Roland MV8800 which was unveiled last year. Does anyone know offhand what the main differences or similarities are if one were to take the plunge and buy one of the two?
The MV does have some nice features though.

It looks a turbocharged version of the MPC2500 ... and that's no bad thing; looks like a very cool piece.

I've had a MV and lots of MPCs. the main difference is that the mpc is very fast to work with cause everything is a button or 2 away to get to. I can work a lot faster on a mpc than fl studio and its very easy to learn so you never get bogged down when in creative mode. the bad things are that there are random features like realtime timestretch and good effects compared to plug-ins (like all samplers and most keyboards). so if I need those, I use the studio. the MV for me seemed cool cause it has all the features you would want and can do anything a mpc can do, but to me it was slower than using fl studio and without most of the perks. it has one effects bus and so many random options that get in the way of the basics. some features on the mpc might take 2 button presses to get done while the MV would take 8. Im sure the MV can make great stuff, its just I would rather make 5 beats in the time it takes to make one on the MV. thats just my opinion tho...

Very true, and the same goes for any piece of gear out there. I know exactly what you're talking about. Hence the phrase..."It's not what you have, but how you use it". Bottom line is the MUSIC, the end result. If the beat or music piece is a work of art, then it really doesn't matter what you use. Being creative also requires efficiency with the gear or software you use.
