EMX 1 and Radias

Post by mmmkay »

Hello, I currently have a ER1 connected to my Radias but I dont really like the ER1 with my Radias. I have a EMX1 on layaway untill I get some feedback. Has anyone connected these two EMX1 and Radias? How do they jive together? How much better is the EMX1 to the ER1 mrk2??
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

emx is a ton better, to be honest tho I am not at all impressed with radias and I dont have extensive experience on it because of that but I can tell you that the emx will compliment any live setup.... oh one more thing you can set it up so the emx is the sequencer for the radias 4 part patches which is exactly what I was gonna do, unfortunatly(or I guess fortunatly) I found that radias isn't my choice synth...

Hey Ruso,

I was just thinking about buying a Radias but your comments tend to make me rethink the purchase. Why don't you like it and what other synths around that price range would you recommend (since you seem to know what your talking about)?

I've only got a EMX currently as a synth (and a KP3, padkontrol, midi keyboard) and would like to stick with Korg, but not necessarily. I use it for house/electro. What about the Alesis micron? How about a Korg R3 or MicroKorg?

the main reason is because radias is a "pretty" synth... no matter how you try you can't get any real phat sounds out of it,... the basslines are weak and ambient.... it's kind of the opposite of the emx. The emx is nasty dirty powerfull sounds whereas the radias is a lot better in mellow dreamy sounds(and a good vocoder)..

oh one more thing to consider, the radias is a synth you play whereas the emx is a MONOSYNTH which means you can only have ONE note down at the same time.

I would completely discourage microkorg, people arround here seem to like it for some reason but it's comlete trash, it is one of the worst sounding synths by korg and it has tons of glitches...

what I would actually recommend is ableton live 7, it has a GREAT new sound engine and you can set it up to go hand in hand with the emx, and get it down to as far as midi mapping all the controlls to correspond to operator(the synth inside ableton)..... I will say tho the basslines on the EMX are really big and powerful, even tho u'll get MUCH better sound from ableton, you will never beat the sheer power of the emx at low frequencies :-D

I really like my Microkorg.

I bought a Samson Q7 Mic and the vocoder rocks now, great for live singing and sampling to the ESX-1.

And with the Microkorg editor I find it great to get nice fat bass sounds and long winding pad type sounds.

The editor really did it for me, before I was not so impressed but now it's great!

I do wish I would have saved up for a really nice synth in the $2000 dollar range though. No sequencer is a bummer.

And I have experienced no glitches with my MK yet. ^_^ Maybe I am just lucky?

sclvan, first go buy yourself some professional headphones. Then go to stores which have the synths you're considering, including the Radias, and spend several hours on them so that you can better judge for yourself. Radias one one of the best VA synths on the market. I own an R3, the little brother of the Radias, and let me assure you that it sounds great. Don't judge only on the presets. Get into the engine and build up some voices from scratch through it. The R3 now has a $100 rebate too. Also check out the MicroX and the X-50, which are the Triton's little brothers without a built-in sequencer. I own an X-50 too, and it complements my R3 well.
