Hi Jürgen

PCM autoload times are 10 times faster than .set loading. To load 128 Mb of samples in 70 seconds with Autoload is very good indeed.

Isn't this the opposite to the data you previously published when you said that manual loading was faster than PCM autoload?

Thanks,
Rob

Sample Loading Time on Pa2X OS 1.00 (8-11-2007)

Size in MB and Description - Loading time as: (1) *.SET - (2) Autoload - (3) Load PCM

250 MB mixed sounds mostly drums (10:00) (02:30) (03:50)
35 MB Keyboard sounds (01:30) (00:20) (00:30)
45 MB Keyboard sounds (01:50) (00:25) (00:42)
100 MB Keyboard sounds (03:45) (01:00) (01:30)
42 MB Groove (entire file - no slice - big files) (01:24) (00:20) (00:35)
42 MB Groove (same as above - time slice - small files) (02:10) (00:25) (00:45)

514 MB Total PCM samples (20:39) (05:00) (07:52)
Average loading time for each MB: (2,41 sec) (0,58 sec) (0,92 sec)

Note:
1) *.set load (Disk Mode): the procedure of loading a .set folder in Disk mode. Slowest because data must be "assembled" in the internal memory and the ram image (for Autoload) is created.

2) Autoload (excluding boot time usually around 1:10): the fastest. At the boot all internal resources are devoted to loading samples in memory.

3) Load Pcm (Disk Preference): normal time. The system is up and use part of the available resources for loading the samples in memory.

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your kind concern. At the moment we're doing well, but we had a rough time. My wife suffered from coloncancer, but is doing fine now. All our 5 children had to go for a scopie cause this kind of tumor is known for its heredity rise.

Well, I haven't forgotten I promised you my style collection, but guess what; I still haven't finished it yet, still gaining styles from all over the planet. And adjusting them to the new OS. But I'll get it down under whatever it takes.
Are you considering upgrading to Pa2X?
