Start up - Powerbook G4

Post by Phunky »

Hi everyone,

I don't know what had happened to my Powerbook G4. It seems that it's taking a bit longer than usual to boot, the startup 'Chime' doesn't chime anymore and occasionally taking a long time to shut down. And I remembered I have 1 gig of ram installed and when I checked on the 'about this Mac' it says I only have 512MB of ram. I'm running OSX 10.4.11 ; 1.67 Ghz PPC G4

 Please help.
Blessings,

Well, if you click "More info", you will find more about your MAC.

In Hardware > Memory section should tell you more :) Memory slot, size, type and speed of your RAM.

Or you can open your MAC and check how much RAM you've got

Hope that helps,
Le fantome ^_^

I have owned the G4 PB for about 3 and 1/2 years. Its an excellent machine

After many OSX upgrades I had to do a fresh OSX install. I needed to back up
all my apps and files to an external drive. Which took 30 minutes

After I did the fresh OSX install, my G4 ran like new, it is great

Another possible root cause to your slow boot up is the available wireless networks nearby. If you wireless with Airport, your G4 will search them out which does take extra time
