Oasys Librarian

This software is no longer available

My Librarian application has got to the point where I thought I would let it out into the wild. Hic sunt dracones - this is version 0.70, which means it's not a release version yet and I am presenting it for testing/feedback, rather than just enjoying it on my own ;-)

This is a Universal Binary for Mac OS 10.4.x, only tested on my G5 thus far, so if any IntelMac users are willing to give it a spin that would be most welcome. The application is a native Cocoa/Objective-C++ application, not Carbon so it won't run on Mac OS 9., sorry.

The application is simple to use. You just open one or more PCG files snagged from your Oasys and use the copy/paste options to move progs/combis/waveseqs/dkits between different banks or files. The drawer contains a list of banks in the PCG file, the contents of the bank selected in that list is shown in the main document window. The copy/paste function works with multiple items in the normal fashion. You can also rename items by double clicking their names. The application will not allow you to make mistakes like pasting HD-1 programs into an EXi program bank or WaveSeq bank, you'll find that if the contents of the clipboard are not compatible with the bank you've selected then the Paste command is disabled. If you find that the Paste button is unexpectedly disabled, hit the Info button and let me know what it says in there.

No dependency stuff is happening here, so if you move a program used by a combi, the combi will be broken.

When the MIDI spec is available I'll be adding the ability to audition progs via sysex ... I use that feature alot with my other stuff.

Thanks,

Daz.

p.s. the release version will be freeware.

BTW: any ideas for useful features are welcome ... I am hoping to add a search function in the release for example, great for hunting down programs you only half remember the name of.

Thanks all :-)

Today I spotted something that *might* mean that when the app is run on an Intel Mac it would complain that a perfectly good PCG file is invalid. Let me know if that happens, it's easily fixed. This happens in my Windows test version and I am not 100% sure if it's a processor difference or a development tool difference.

** EDIT : FIXED ... please re-download if you are using an Intel powered Mac **

Daz,

Quick question. What byte number in each program and combi describes the category of sound? eg. Keyboard, organ etc...In the triton series it was at byte 206 for programs, 214 for combis and 762 for Karma combis..

Im hoping to release a windows freeware librarian for the Oasys very soon.

Cheers

Today I was able to confirm that my application is compatible with Intel based Macs. I ran the latest binary up on the Mac Mini that my brother just picked up. I was able to open a PCG file, copy/paste/rename a bunch of stuff and then open the resulting PCG file with the Oasys.

For usage notes see the Mac version above.

Hi Daz,
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for this utility. I have it (Windows version) installed now and it appears to be doing it's job. I ran a test transfer of a combi from one pcg bank to another from the "Edit" pull down menu using "Copy" and "Paste" functions. No problem.

Will there eventually be any drag and drop function to perform the same as the above while in "Cascade" or "Tile" windows?

Thanks again.
Cheers,
Eric
