New Kronos 2025 Compability

Post by V-man »

Hi, does anyone know if the Kronos 2 and the new Kronos (2025) will be fully compatible in both directions, so to speak? Will you be able to use a SAVE_ALL file and transfer all data and config back and forward between the two beasts? I wish to have two identical Kronos units and the latest years there have not surprisingly been a complete drought on the second hand market to get hands on one more Kronos 2. So if there will be this kind of unlimited compatibility between the two generations of Kronos the problem is solved. I will just by the new one when it comes available. :D

I have bought and registered several (13 !) EX´s for my old Kronos.

- can I use them im parallel on the old Kronos and the new Kronos 2025? How?
- can I transfer them from the old Kronos to the new Kronos 2025?
- do I have to buy them all again when I want to use them in the Kronos 2025?

Maybe someone knows already the answer ?!

For a good while now, the Korg licensing model has allowed EXs Expansion Libraries, and KRS soundpacks, to be registered on up to three separate Nautilus or Kronos instruments. Hopefully that will also include the Kronos 3, when the time comes.

The Public Keys of each Nautilus, and/or Kronos will need to be registered with Korg, via the Korg registration website, and a new product key for each EXs and KRS product will be issued on request. The only thing to be aware of is that the order of Programs, Combis, and sound samples are not the same for each model, so it may be necessary to download version-specific EXs and KRS files for different keyboards. The product registration keys will be bespoke for each keyboard version and EXs/KRS.

thanks. But this seems not to be good for me.

I have indeed already three Kronos´s, each of them loaded with the same 13 EX´s and kept in sync for two bands and my recording studio.
I believe there is no way (?) to "unload" a license from one of the existing Kronos´s in order to transfer it to a Kronos 2025.

Still. Three licences for the price of one isn't too bad a deal, though I can see that then having to fork out for another licence, to cover an additional Kronos, seems quite a steep cost to bear. On the other hand, four machines covered, Expansion Library-wise, for the price of two licences doesn't sound so bad.

Your saves of PCG files will be OK to transfer and your EXi mode programs will likely sound just fine. On the other hand, for any change/update done to the EXs multisamples like the ROM, your HD-1 mode programs will not sound identical. It will depend if they keep the ROM sounds and order exactly the same, etc. For example, anyone who transfers Kronos HD-1 programs on a Nautilus ends up realizing the EXs multisamples differ between both machines, because Korg decided to update the sounds. The Kronos v2025 sample libraries are already listed as quite different, so don't expect HD-1 programs referring to earlier Kronos libraries absent on the v2025 to sound identical, if this is the case.

The only thing is, when you own a Kronos 2 and a Kronos X, the Berlin Grand included in the K2 can not be registered with the Kronos X. At least that's my last piece of information last year from Music Meyer in Germany, official Korg rep.

If you buy for example the Ital. Grand additionally, this can be registered on both as voip writes.

ROM is the same. New Kronos is 100% compatible with Kronos 2.

- As Dan said ROM memory of Kronos X/2/3 is the exact same.
- Any Installed / registered EXs Library (from EXs 9 to any) will work in any Kronos X/2/3
- Any Kronos 2 PCG with any engine will work in Kronos 3
- Any Kronos Korg Store EXs & PCG will work in Kronos 3 but only Programs of Combinations with reference to
custom samples since Kronos 3 factory Programs will be different and reference to old Kronos programs will be lost.
- A fully customized full setup with custom samples of a Kronos 2 if saved in All format will work identical if migrated
but this will overwrite newer factory PCG setup of Kronos 3.
- WavesArt Premium Kronos EXs libraries will work finally in Kronos 3 , exactly as in any Kronos.

Hope this helps

Anthony,

I think that with Kronos 3 there will be a choice to preload Kronos 1 or Kronos 2 factory sounds. I think I red it somewhere...

The Berlin Grand is available for the Kronos X as part of the New Kronos Sound Pack, which "upgrades" the Kronos X to the Kronos 2 spec:

Sure , You can load any older PCG of any Kronos and will work flawlessly if you do not care for factory resources as I do.
Kronos 3 has all Rom and EXs libraries on board and using preload.KST you can pre-load anything from any Kronos.
For instance WavesArt Cinematic EXs Bundle of 12 Gb will revert Kronos 3 to Kronos-X factory setup with all WavesArt
EXs loaded and factory resources working all together.

For someone like me who own a very old Kronos 1 88 I won't hesitate to buy the Kronos 3 which will be even cheaper with all its wonderful add-on banks of sounds than the price I have paid my Kronos 1 in 2011
What a big surprise ! :D

Digital-Challenged Mind Seeks Analog-Mind Compatible Assistance
Hello fellow KORG fans. This dinosaur needs help: i would like to buy a new 2025 Kronos 3(?) when available and have some questions for you, if those of you who might have the answers would be kind enough to reply.
Q. i now own an Oasys 88 an have recorded over 100 original songs (sequences) on it, which have all been copied to USB drives. Will i be able to load these song sequences from these USB drives directly into the new Kronos 3?
IF NOT: is there a workaround available for my computer-challenged mind?
IF SO: will the songs/sequences sound the same on the Kronos as on my Oasys, and if not, is there something my dinosaur mind would be capable of doing to remedy the discrepancies?
Much Gratitude for your assistance [-o<
