Post by RC »

Does anyone have a good sounding steel guitar as used in country music. The 4x dosen't seem to have one.

There's one that was posted here: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... edal+steel
I didn't try it.
I found a pretty good one on board, but I'll have to look up the name.
P.S.
O.K. Here it is: 33X B DI DNC You may have to edit it a little but it is believable as a Pedal Steel Guitar.

The hardest thing with the pedal steel is the bending of notes WITHIN the chord. Then the bending of notes in general! It’s tough to play in arranger mode and have a hand free for bending as much as you really need to to nail that pedal and lap steel playing style.

Then there’s the swell pedal technique...

In fairness, the sound itself is a distant second to the actual playing... I’ve had success with many sounds that don’t bear close scrutiny (I used to do studio work with a DX7 that country players didn’t hate!) but I’ve never really had much success while my LH is tied up playing the chords.

The Genos has a great trick up its sleeve that the Korg can’t do, yet. Hopefully Korg take a look at it and figure out how to add it. But the Genos can figure out from the chord played which note is the third (whether at the top, bottom or middle) and will bend only that note and leave the others alone. It’s pretty effective!

You are right, Yamaha has figured it out finally; so has Ketron. Maybe nobody at Korg is "country" enough! :)

Korg still hasn't sorted out that off note in the steel guitar that happens in the accomp. of Country Ballad 2. Play a minor chord in either var. 3 or var. 4. It's been there since at least since the i30.
When I nod my head . . . Hit it!

This and Yamaha’s Ensemble Mode are the two most MUSICAL advantages Yamaha have over Korg. Sure, Korg has a ton of technical advantages over Yamaha, but on the pure musical end of things, being able to do things like bend a third no matter how you play the inversion, or have a horn section divide itself into the individual players is stuff that makes a difference to your music...

Oh, and 28 insert effects is pretty darn useful!
