Does the Kronos X have an option which would allow me to create sheet music directly from the synth as I play in real time, or do I need separate software. If so, does anyone have software they prefer? I'm looking to create sheet music for strings and a violin.

The K does not have that- not in real time

It has a SEQ where you can create midi files. Then you need some sofware to read your midi files.

Before the days of original Kronos, there was a software system called Sibelius. Sheet music software that took playing to score.
I ran across it being demonstrated at a University where i used to steal some keyboard time on their Pianos. Probably around 2004.
There are other software systems.

I can image that 14 years later sees updates and new systems that have gone further than simply taking notes played and putting them in sheet music notation form.
I doubt Sibelius is even as note worthy anymore or maybe got bought up into a more ambitious software developer scheme. So many get bought up into other software systems and the original name gets wiped out or obscured.

Not sure if that is the same Avid that Pro Tool came under?
“Avid Pro Tools” or is it something else that sounds like “Avid”?
Been a while since i looked at anything doing with pro tools.

I use Finale. Simply the best and most complete. Not free, but it does everything you will ever need.

Sibelius is a top of the line sheet music software.
I use it almost daily and done it for quite some years.
Finale is also great software. But different. It's a matter of preferences.
I like Sibelius most.
Steinberg have released their Dorico. Haven't tried it, but looks great too.

Sibelius is very powerful. I haven't yet found anything I wanted to do that it can't do.

I don't record into it realtime, but enter the music manually.
Great tool for making lead sheets etc.

Most DAWs have a simple sheet music editor, but they use to be very basic.

I do both ...manual entering and recording directly into Sibelius. It would be an overkill to buy Finale/Sibelius for basic scoring. There are some free notation programs out there I think.

https://musescore.org/en is a free alternative, available for both Windows and OSX. It is an Open Source project, under GPLv2 license, which means you get to use the full version, free of charge.

I've only used it once to send off a melody line as a .pdf, so I can't say too much about the overall workflow, but it supports input via usb midi keyboard, midi file import, etc.

Yup, I'm with Gunnar - Musescore is absolutely fine for basic scoring work. I don't know how well it can cope with major multi-part work, but it's worth checking it out to see if it suits you.

I just checked out MuseScore real quick. It's definitely more than enough for casual applications. It's amazing how much you can accomplish with legit free tools out there. Only if you could download musicianship that fast!

I'm using ScoreCloud since a couple of years now.
Previously i was using Sibelius, Finale and MuseScore.

ScoreCloud is the easiest, simplest, faster method to get a decent and readable score from what i play on my piano without any previous settings like metronome, key, 4/4 ... . He can guess which hand i use or in doubt he creates a third voice and i can define after if it's part of right hand or left hand. He can also guess the key, the tempo, the quantization... I just have some minor modifications to apply. It's also working with a microphone and an acoustic piano or any other instrument. With Finale and Sibelius, this task took me long hours. (I didn't test the latest versions)

Sebelius and Finale are more professional, more complex and powerful but not so intuitive.

If you want to write score just for you or a simple score for your group or a beginner, ScoreCloud is perfect. But if you want to write professional scores to sell or to share with a big orchestre, than Finale or Sibelius are better.

But if you don't plan to write a lot of scores, MuseScore is the best as it's a free app.

If you record on your Kronos with the sequencer, set the tempo, the key... and play in rhythm, MuseScore is enough. If you totally improvise on a digital piano where you can't setup the key and tempo, ScoreCloud will make you win a lot of time for cleaning the score.

what about Logic Pro X . I saw a friend using it on a apple computer, playing on a "Native Instrument" keyboard. He pressed a button and all his playing on the keyboard was recorded as sheet music. It was sooo simple. I never used it. But I am wondering if there is something similar for Windows computers.
