Hacking the joystick of the Kronos possible?

Hi,

the spring inside the joystick that reverts it back to a default center position renders the joystick relatively useless to me. Is it possible to remove the spring so the joystick will stay where I leave it? Have any of you altered the behavior of the joystick in some way?

Thanks

Did you know that you can lock the joystick position anywhere you like using the SW1 and 2?

On the controllers page you can assign SW1 or SW2 to JS X Lock or JS Y Lock. When the joystick is in the position you want press the switch to lock the position.

So you want it to behave like the Vector joystick? I can see this being problematic for the main joystick because you need to be able to find the zero position quickly in order to be playing in tune. Without the springs, I think it would be impossible to do it quickly or easily.

That might be a good workaround, thank you Bald Eagle and DeltaJockey. And yes ando727, that is pretty much exactly what I want but now that you mention it, I imagine not being able to easily find that zero position could be problematic

There has to be some kind of midi solution other than SW for position lock.
Maybe kronos will or won't let you assign the JS functions to VJS but i am curious if karma GE's come with pitch bend and mod wheel type effects that respond to slider control while removing the arp aspect of the GE. I also wonder what AMS options would sound like giving pitch setting over to a knob or slider if available.
Just imagining because i am done sitting at kronos for today. Been at it long enough today along with the rest of my chores and fun.

But as far as midi solutions go, where JS functions have Midi CC# and kronos has midi interface for external control, there may be a midi control system out there that can do JS functions without being bound by the spring loaded JS. Maybe a software version that has no physical control panel or some hardware unit that lets knobs and slider do the work over the Midi CC#'s for JS functions.

???

You might be able to get the Kronos EXT mode to send a slider/knob on the appropriate CC# and Midi Channel, then route that back in. You would need to either turn LOCAL control off or otherwise filter the MIDI data otherwise the Kronos will send itself the same info twice for notes etc.

Lemur on iOS and Android could also do the job and indeed you can hook it up to the EXT midi control and have it transform the Kronos fader to the appropriate destination.

No end of possibilities, just depends on precisely what you want to achieve and what gadgets you have available.

Sure, you could get a Korg nanoKONTROL and bind the joystick's functionality to individual sliders... No spring loading there then.

My current workaround for when I need to use modulation is to just route the modulation control to a slider on the kronos instead of using it on the joystick which is especially useless for any velocity-sensitive orchestral composition in my case.

I would just stick with the vector joystick

Yes, I forgot that you can assign joystick functions to the VJS. To zero it out just move the joystick. You can also assign knobs and many other things to the VJS.

VJS is not one of my choice tools on kronos, but i took a look at it again yesterday after being on this topic, and saw JS options for all 4 VJS directions.
I did a quick select of JS for VJS control but got no actual change in function. Then i turned off "enable volume control" to see if that
was in the way, but VJS just shut down completely after that.

So now i am hoping someone has tips on the missing link to getting my VJS control assignments to work as i move VJS around.

Select the "Enable CC Control" checkbox.
