So the only thing going for the sampler is its black color.
yeah, this is great for the other guys but it totally sucks for us...
I found a few quirks with the ES2 hack. Wonder if anyone can confirm they get the same behaviour?
So if you load 10 drum samples from your memory card into slots 501 to 510. Now go to an oscillator and scroll through the sounds. Do you now have the samples that you loaded into slots 506, 507, 508 and 509 also loaded into slots 356, 357. 358 and 359? But now the sample names are infact patch names from the equivalent numbers on the E2 firmware.
I've tried this twice now and it happened both times. Also after doing this, when you turn the machine off/on it gives an unknown error.
You know, if Korg decides to officially go this route, there very well could be a workaround to get the e2 PCM onto the es2 - making both units go back and forth.
Don't go throwing your sampler in the river just yet.

No, sadly, it turns into the sampler version, just the 1 multimode filter. The filters are part of the OS, not the hardware. And most of the virtual analog synth oscillators go away.
Maybe someone will figure out how to copy the filters from the e2 into the hacked firmware. Things are different these days - buncha intenet kids with thier hackz and lulz.

Hmm - I have not had time to play with it since installing the hack, just tested with one sample. I'll explore this later. First I've heard of it.
Now
one solution for KORG : make an "hybrid OS" the 2 electribe at the same time ( sharing ressources -limited- between synth part and sampler part..)
And they can continue to sell their units at the same price..one black....one grey..
Oh wait...
There is another solution for them..
-> protect the future os
Make this hack impossible for those who wants benefit of all the next improvements, bug fixes etc.

You know in Japan, there are vending machine that sell big coke and small coke cans at the same prize (or even at a higher prize!). And people choose the can according to their thirst and don't mind paying the same or more than the scaled up 2 in 1 version.
However this mindset only works in Japan. Everywhere else on this planet, people will just go WTF!?! why did you buy the small can?
I'm yet to do the mod, because I'm a pussy and scared of doing it, but I'm wondering what Korg do next. Here's my question - do Korg now work on a new firmware version that fixes all the problems, gives you note tails, possibly even latched notes between patterns, gives you 8 bars, ticks as many boxes as possible from the various wish lists doing the rounds, but makes its impossible to do the mod? Or do they embrace the dual OS option?
01/WFD - M3 - MS-20 - Volca Bass - Volca Beats - Volca Keys - electribe emx2 - Monotron - KP3+ - iPad with too many Korg apps
Moog Sub 37 - Arturia Microbrute - Roland Gaia SH-01 - Boss DR660 - Akai S1000 - Akai S01 - Yamaha RM1x - Roland SP-404SX

It looks like their only option at this point tbh.
They have to make the next fw update enticing enough for people to give up having both! Or they just throw the towel in and never do another update and abandon the electribe all together.
Seems like mistabishi was telling the truth about the OS swap
