Something new coming in summer hinted at keys

I was just told from two sales reps that Korg has something new coming out this summer, but its hush, hush as usual so I wouldn’t say its even a keyboard at this point. The seq and recorder have kept me waiting on next gen Oasys...I’m lookin at used ones now but lots of scams that I reported and forensics is on to. Beware of EBAY!!!! That last auction that stopped at $1, 250 was a scam and the guy tried to get several people to send cash and looked legit. EBay is a really high risk…third time now out of five.

Korg should feel safe producing high-end boards like this because at this point of performance after Korg upgrades to current gen CPUs tech this will not be a concern. I wait and chain up a bunch of M1s and a WS/AD for one sound to get by. It's cheep....but makes a reasonable sounding clock when set properly next to most live setups....tell me again why there is a L & R output?

I don't know if the availability of the motherboard, in and of itself, is really such a big deal. Even if they're no longer made, motherboards are relatively inexpensive -- Korg could have pre-bought a huge stack of 'em.

But I guess there may be other parts that might be increasingly harder to find. (as a case in point, the chip used in the EXB-DI card, which has resulted in a shortage....)

Beyond parts availability, it just makes sense to update a product that's 3+ yrs old, regardless, even if it's just a refresh and even if the OS & feature set remain relatively unchanged. Maybe they could strip some incremental manufacturng costs through a product refresh, or maybe they could make the chassis thinner / lighter & more streamlined. I think they'd sell a ton more Oaysii if they were 10lbs lighter and $1,000 cheaper.

If the first OASYS was a commercial success, then KORG might work on a II version.

I heard it was an add-on to the existing Oasys that you simply attach to your existing Oasys via the Ethernet port and it gave 4 times as much of everything we have so far.

Unfortunately I only heard that in my head this morning .... ;-)

Before an OASYS II arrives, (if at all), I'd just like to know what that "FUNCTION" buttons for - like a "Last-Request":) - surely, somethings got to come of it?.

That's a good point Anthony. I wonder if anything will come of the ethernet port in the back also.

Please have hardware upgrades to Oasys 1

Hi all, I remember when I bought the oasys, i did for the reason that I was tired of buying new synths every couple of years, and had an allmighty task of convincing my partner that this would be the end as far as synths were concerned. At approx $10k in Australia (88 keys) this was a huge outlay, that if superceeded would make the next task an allmost impossible bridge to cross. I hope that Korg realize that, as I'm sure they do, they sold the dream of the open system, which in my interpretation meant that they would continue to update, upgrade, some free some not so free, so if they decide to have oasys 2 or b, thats ok, as long as we have the opportunity to upgrade at a price I will be more than happy, if not, the open system will come into real doubt, and will make mine and i'm sure many other lives hell to pay.

The OASYS will not lose anything if a better model comes out, be it Korg or any other. This beasts true potential is beginning to reveal it self, and I'm certain that it will become a classic.
The only thing that I'm really hoping for before Korg reassigns the OASYS team to other duties is that they implement the program editing in combi mode. Then the OASYS in my view is complete.

An Open System does not mean "never create a new model" nor does it mean "we will continue to develop new features and instruments forever".

The OASYS Open system simply means that the platform has an open architecture. For example, the M3 has a fixed architecture, meaning the only applications it can support are PCM synthesis (sample based synth) and the EXB-Radias. The OASYS, based on a generic computing platform, can support new software and is only constrained by its hardware (computing power).

If Korg does release an OASYS 2 I would be shocked if they offered any type of upgrade pricing -- it just wouldn't be cost effective to do so.

I would suspect that if Korg released an OASYS 2 there would be some instruments (software) developed for it (e.g. some EXis) that would also be available for the OASYS. Of course, just like personal computer software, there would be a point where some applications could only run on the new platform.

Of course, none of this is worth worrying about until Korg announces an OASYS 2, which may never happen.

Martin, I liked yours and Daz' first prognosis a few pages back in this thread, that, they might release a Rev B with forward and backward compatibility. As long as there is backward compatibility I guess most of us will be happy.

There is a lot they havnt released for the O. Not all the PM models have been released - we dont have Brass/Reed, we dont have Vocal. There is a lot more Sample stuff that can be added - Strings, Percussion, Basses, ( we only have Brass/Woodwind ) there is stacks more that can be released.

We dont have M1 - they have included it in the Legacy Collection - Where's our Oasys version?

We havnt seen any Effects updates - Where are the new EXf??

I dont believe for one minute that Korg would do this to it's High End Paying Customers.

We didnt part with so much money; others sold instruments that they dearly loved ( or hated lol ) to buy the O - It would be disrespectfull of Korg to abandon us!!

I understand that almost every three years they bring out a new 'lower End' Synth - Triton, Extreme, M3 etc - these are 'closed' systems with minimal upgrade features - just a small chip, or whatever, that can only take a small upgrade. The O, as we know, has many times that small chip capacity - come on guys dont make me laugh. Three years only and nothing more to come??? Bullshit!!!

Sorry
Billy

I would agree that since Korg coined the term "EXf" they are morally obligated to release at least one for the OASYS.

If Korg releases an "OASYS 2" that is just the original OASYS with a newer motherboard, then they definitely could create EXi/EXf/EXs for both models for a while.

Anyways this silence let me think, these rumors can be true since no one from Korg has said the contrary.

MauroR,

I realize that someone could make the same assumption you did, however, it doesn't make it true.

Korg has never floated vaporware out to the marketplace that I'm aware of. As a matter of company policy, it is best to NOT telegraph to your competitors your incomplete plans just for a cranky customer or 2.

On the other hand, you're certainly welcome to believe what ever you want as long as you don't try to pass it off as fact.
