no problem  . it just good to be able to help ppl get more out of their box . Gonna hav to try these jj's myself . Tube selection appears to be a great boost then , its just a shame it hasnt been made clear that it DOES make a huge diffence long b4 now .

Still , now we know , enjoy !!

I've only just noticed  that following my MX going back to Korg Uk for repair it actually came back with JJ ECC883 tubes in it ( I think they were Electro-Harmonix originally, but Korg replaced the tubes as part of the service, so they must be using JJ's now )....I obviously hadnt noticed from the sound however !
I hope the ECC803s I've ordered make a marked difference in sound... :?

the live video where I'm outside is actually a fully improvised set, everything was made up and created as I went on my improv setup....

the furby is circuit bent, that's nothing.... listen to what happens when you put it through effects(on verb there's a song called messing with furby or something)....

it's one of my favourite sample producing items... it can make some wicked stuff bro.

Some of the circuit bent features include several freak out modes, a button that will hold the current tone(very useful for creating instrumental sounds) it's got a wired remote control with rca connection... for a while I was using it along with bpm glitch plugins to create glitchy textures for my live set. It was cool but it took too much work to get it to stay in sync and still sound as one with music so it took away from the actual music.

feel free to download the glitch example on my virb it's very nice sample material for ableton or esx.

ok...so I put the JJ ECC803S into my MX last night - very interesting !!

They basically dont give you any overdrive / distortion effect at !! with the ECC833s in before, I used to have the tube level at about 10 - 11 'o' clock to get a nice compressed effect without running into actual distortion - I've now got the tube gain almost on full!
What I've got is lovely tube saturation & compression, but without the signal distorting at all. The overall effect is much clearer & 'spacey'. Its made a marked improvement on reverb in particular - that nasty 'pingy' / 'ringing' sound had gone pretty much totally. Bass frequency reproduction sounds much better too - much deeper & more under control sounding.
I think that the ECC803s are often used as hi-fi amp valves ? this would make a lot of sense, given that that they dont really overdrive. I'm pretty chuffed - my MX sounds more hi-fi now too ! ( & I've always got the option of putting the old tubes in should I want some total tube overdrive for a tune.... ) :D

Hey everyone, been an esx user for a while now. its had some heavy use and im recording in about a month so figured i best get some new tubes and from the sounds of it upgrade from the stock tubes makes a giant difference.
but yeh, i have no idea what tubes to get. Looking at the Groove Tubes but there are so many different models i dont know even where to start.
Anyone have any suggestions?
cheers guys.

well this is all rather odd.... i just recieved my ecc803s (gold plated) from eurotubes. They give a marked improvement in sound, but others are talking bout turning there tube gain up to full and there being not to much distortion, i still get distotion when i get to just before half way. Still an improvement from b4, where i could only have the tube gain on a little before it distorted. But i just wonder why it is for two people with same tubes and same unit, yet different result??

that is wierd.... :? I Guess the fact that yours are the gold plated versions shouldnt really make a massive difference....??

maybe its all about internal gain structure too....Perhaps my patterns are all more uniformly 'quiet' in terms of individual track levels, meaning I can drive the tube gain more before it distorts ??

Having said that, my patterns match quite closely to the ( few remaining  ) presets in terms of level - they arent being driven into distortion either...

Fine tuning maybe , and yeah the tubes will react differently to whatever freq's are passing thru . Also , from what ive researched it seems perfectly matched tubes are'nt actually that easy to find ( hence pll here talking bout a slightly unbalanced sound ) .

What i did tho to get the best sound i could was tune the tubes over around the period of about 30 minutes . given that pressure and heat affect the tubes i thought it best to find a sweet spot over time .

incremental changes in the positioning of the small plastic screws will do this .
i dunno what these screws do in techie terms .. but i do know how to alter the tone of my machine to sound slightly different .
after ur first week or so u may need to re-adjust as the tubes are slowly wearing in . how much tube gain u use will affect the amount of wear .

at least u guys hav noticed a step-up tho  .. thats the main thing , more freedom = better music :)

with regards to being matched for left / right...the place I got mine from computer matches them for you if you say you need a stereo pair...

LOL , its cool man im happy with the balance really as its inly slightly off .

yeah i now a close match is possible , but on various sites ive read that a 100% match isnt . Im not really to bothered tho as tghe balancei hav now is better than its ever been . but .. i suppose id be a bit botered if igot a pair of jj's and they were off .

it'll be the end of month now b4 i get alternate tubes tho , so i'll look around then . cheers tho :)

I meant to post a link to a quick loop i recorded from the mx with the new tubes. It's the first one http://hosted.filefront.com/musikmachine/

It's one bar looped but you should get an idea of the difference in quality new tubes can make.I got the GTs,same as red.It sounds infinitely better than it did with the old tubes. If you find the levels are unbalanced try swapping the tubes.
