I think is the same, i took all of the files in the Zip except the Manuals folder
and then just put them on the USB Stick and that was it, nothing specific.

New Keyboard

Post by fabeandles »

I just bought the Kronos and trying to update. When I unzipped all these files were in it
bc
DisplayUpdaterMessage
install.info
KRONOS_Update_2_0_2.csum
KRONOS_Update_2_0_2.tar.gz
Manuals
md5sum
mnt
posttar.sh
pretar.sh

Which ones do I copy to the USB stick to update my Kronos?

All of them.
You must unzip your download to the root of the memory stick.

So you will have a bunch of files in the root, plus one folder.

Have a read of the update manual. It's pretty clear on what you have to do.

Regards
Sharp.

thanks for the procedure...

I'm a very late ("conservative" = nervous) updater - finally getting around to 1.6 now that 2.0 has been announced.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if that Mac Kronos editor works now...

Re: KORG KRONOS – OS. 1.6.0 - PROCEDURE (QUICK and GOOD)!

Post by JuneauUnderground »

AlchemistMusicStudio wrote:1. Using a computer, download the update from the Korg website: www.korg.com/kronos. The update will be in compressed, zip format.
2. Open the ZIP file (the downloaded file is called KRONOS_Update_1_6_0).
3. Copy the update files (use USB Flash Drive - only FAT32):
- mnt (Folder)
- KRONOS_Update_1_6_0.taz.gz (ZIP)
- DisplayUpdaterMessage (File)
- install.info (File)
- md5sum (File)
- posttar.sh (File)
- pretar.sh (File)

4. Disconnect all USB devices from the KRONOS.
Other USB devices may interfere with the update process.
5. Go to the Global mode, P0– Basic Setup page.
6. Open the menu, and select the command “Update System Software”.
A prompt will appear on the screen: “Connect the Software Update media, and press OK”.
7. Connect the USB storage device containing the update files.
8. Press the OK button.

A new message will appear: “Are you sure?”
9. Press the OK button.
A prompts will appear on the screen:
- Update System: “Searching for updater files”
- Update System: “Found valid updater source. Preparing to install…”
10. Progress bar will appear on the screen, noting that the system is being updated.
A new messages will appear:
- Updater Version: 1.6.0
- Installing files…
- Finalizing changes
- Finishing installation…
While the system is being updated (1-2 minutes), do not touch the Kronos switches, and never turn off the power. If the power is accidentally turned off while the system is being loaded, the KRONOS may become inoperable. If this occurs, using the Restore DVDs may be required; please contact your local Korg distributor.
11. When the update is complete, a new message will appear:
- “Kronos system version 1.6.0 update complete. Please restart the system”.

12. Turn off the KRONOS, and then disconnect the USB storage device.
13. Wait approximately ten seconds, and then turn the power on again.

.

Works perfectly for 2.02, HOWEVER, be sure that you DO NOT have your USB drive in the USB slot when you choose Update from the Global/Basic menu. It will cause you some angst. Follow the instructions exactly. Insert the USB drive with the update files when prompted. Fortunantly, the angst was not permanent. I plugged the USB in prior to selecting Update from the Global/Basic and after answering "Are You Sure", which is always a trying moment when installing update for fear of bricking the freeking thing, the Kronos sat there for some minutes looking for update files, until I pulled the USB out, figuring I somehow mucked the thing up, and rebooted the Kronos. Yes much angst there, but short lived. On reboot, the K booted up fine into 1.6. Moral of the story --- FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER.
Too much gear to list.

Thanks for the heads up on the not connecting the USB drive until it asks you... my Kronos initially froze on trying to find the installer files... now it seems all is going well :D
