The Benefits of Having a microSTATION forum

Post by WhistlingFool »

Good morning...

I would so much like to have a place to go to commiserate and share with other mS owners and users. There is much to be gained if we can have a place to share our combined knowledge.

Seeing that the owners/organizers of this establishment do not seem to want to add another forums... would anyone be interested in my creating a mail list or forum on my webpages?

I think we would all be much better served if this forum were here on this site, but there has been no reply to my emails and there seems to be little response to this thread.

I'm not sure which way to go.. I want to share and learn... anyone have any ideas?

Yup, as I recall the guy who reviewed it in SOS called the acoustic piano sounds "delightfully plinky" at the top end, and they sure are! What blew me away about the MS is the electric piano sounds. I'm really picky about Wurlitzer sounds, as I have two 206As to compare with, but the Wurlies in this thing are really well done. The Rhodes type pianos rock as well - I like them best with the FX cut way back. The MS' wee little keyboard feels great, and connects beautifully to the piano sounds inside.

As usual with Korg instruments, the guitars sound really lame to me, despite my best guitaristic performance efforts.

Just about everything else about the little guy though makes me happy. The MS is a great little musical buddy and follows me around the house a lot.

Build quality - top marks :D

Ah, there is so much more we could share about our MicroStation experiences. If only there were a dedicated forum category - hey, now there's an idea!

Hi! I hope you can help me. I am using sonar with the microstation.
At last I have made two diferrent midi tracks and have asigned two diferent sound from the microstation(conected via usb), the inputs are microstation keyboard an the outputs are microstation sound. In the inspector the two midi tracks have diferent sound, but when I press play, there is only one sound playing(mixing the notes of the two tracks)! why? Any help please? I only want to use sonar as a sequencer for the microstation. Maybe make 5 or 6 midi tracks with diferent sounds and send them to the microstation!! Any help please? I think this problem is because of some midi configuration of the microstation. could it be?
Thanks in advance and excuse my english :?

Are you sure Sonar is transmitting your two sounds on two different channels?

I can't even get the MS to play a standard MIDI file with the proper sounds - it really should be easier than this!

so looking at your picture, check out the strip docked on the left side of the screen (you have it circled in black), there's all sorts of MIDI parameters. in Track 1, set the "C" field to 1 (which it already is). in Track 2, set it to 2. if they're the same, you're going to get the same sound. if they're different, and you're in SEQ mode and not in COMBI or PROG, then you'll get different sounds.

the "C" field is the MIDI Channel Field. you have 16 of them in SEQ mode, and each can be set to a different program/bank. B is Bank, P is Program.

I have just ordered a Microstation and now I'm thinking about extending it for 2 more octaves. Can I do that with a Nanokey? Seems like there is nothing like a usb to midi cable....

I too request a quorum
A microstation forum
Where we can speak
Of tip 'n' tweak -
Discussions with decorum!

The moderators' ruling
(If they've had proper schooling)
Must surely be
"why yes!", "oui oui!"
And they'll set up the tooling

To carve a niche where MS pals
Hang out with MS guys and gals
To chit and chat
'bout this and that
We shall tete-a-tete, we shall!

So keep up the campaigning!
The dudes that do the reigning
Cannot ignore
For ever more
Our bitching and complaining
