Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Patch memory is a MUST for me to buy that thing and use it live.
It was clear to me from the start, that it would hardly be ready in September 2014. Be glad, if it appears in early summer 2015 and with the necessary features like patch memory.

Just came across this thread with the new replies on it. I wonder if it will have the proportional pitch control pads of the classic Odyssey?
I'm currently learning Ultravox "The Voice" right now as part of a small classic 80s electronica covers set I am doing with a friend, and have spent time trying to get the Ultravox lead sound on the Kronos. I haven't bothered hunting to see if anybody had already done this, as I wanted a programming challenge to get to know AL-1 a little better
My background research tells me it was the ARP Odyssey used. I've got the basic sound in the AL-1 engine - it still needs refining, but it is getting there (the main sound character is all about VCO2 and ring mod, with VCO 1 performing sync and FM on VCO2), but when you listen closely, a lot of the character is also in how Billy Currie plays those proportional pads for slides and vibrato (on VCO1)
I'm currently "faking it" by using portamento to get the slides solely via the keyboard, which I'm guessing is what Currie did when they moved to Oscars in the mid 80s. Next step is to see what fun I can have with the Kronos ribbon controller as a substitute for the proportional controllers on the Odyssey.
But if Korg are doing an Odyssey clone with the proportional pads, I could be tempted...

Yes, I've got Vibrato on aftertouch myself (which is pretty controllable on the Kronos).RKfan wrote:I believe there is a good ulttavox lead patch for the kronos it uses aftertouch for the vibrato
I did think about looking for an existing sound, but decided I wanted a crack at it myself as a challenge to get to know AL-1.
But if you know where I might find that existing Ultravox lead, I'd be interested

Most of the time, Billy used an early MKII Oddy.Derek Cook wrote: I'm currently "faking it" by using portamento to get the slides solely via the keyboard, which I'm guessing is what Currie did when they moved to Oscars in the mid 80s.
Much of his "super glideness" comes from the fact that the transpose function on the early Odyssey is BEFORE the portamento (and not mixed in after). He used to flick the transpose switch down 2 Oct then fully up for an instant 4 octave glide, in conjunction with the foot switch.
Happy to say, I did some work for Dave Formula who was his co keyboard player in Visage... I got to know some useful info

I think their announced delay in release date shows real maturity; and bodes very well for the actual quality of the synth when released.
It suggests they are aware of the magnitude of the project, and the effort required to get it right. Expect this to be a high quality, substantial, instrument when it's released. I'm more interested in it as a result I have to say.
