What's the latest with this ?

Can you give an update,please.
I have been rather busy the past days, so didn't have time to look further into this.
Tomorrow afternoon I'll have some time to dig into this again.
I'll keep you updated here. :)

could you try this?:
-record your pattern in cubase
- press play, now you hear nothing
- then on that channel change the kronos sound from MIDI In to any other MIDI IN port (so that you rule out a midi loop).

if you hear things now, then it's because you have created a midi loop in your setttings.
I have done the following:
* Record pattern in Cubase: works
* Press play in Cubase; I hear nothing: correct
* Change MIDI IN in Cubase from KRONOS to ALL MIDI INPUTS: this made no difference.

So it's not a MIDI loop.

I have uninstalled Cubase 5, manually removed all left over files on the hard drive and reinstalled it.
This didn't help at all though, as I straight away still have the same issue.

I discovered something else weird:
So when I play back the recorded track, I don't hear anything as long as I have the related MIDI track actively selected on the KRONOS.
But when I play the keys on the KRONOS I can hear the related patch and see the audio and MIDI meters in Cubase react to that.

I am totally confused now and can't work this way. As a work around I would have to constantly switch the active MIDI track on the KRONOS to a different track to hear what I actually recorded.

It looks as if the recorded MIDI data, which during playback is being send to the active channel on the KRONOS, isn't being processed or the sound (audio) of the related patch isn't being send back to Cubase.

I have made a small video to show what's actually happening.
This might make it easier for you guys to get the idea.

Some more news: I said in the end of my video that this happens on all MIDI tracks.
It turns out this is not correct. It only happens at the first 4 MIDI tracks.
As soon as I record something on MIDI track 5 or higher, I can play it back right away and hear the associated patch on the KRONOS,
even when I have track 5 or higher actively selected on the KRONOS.

i'v tried in it cubase and here it works flawlessly, did you try to use a sequencer song without settings an intial one?

since the first 4 don't work it can be anything, to me it sounds like settings on the kronos and not in cubase, like KARMA settings?
I have absolutely no idea what could cause this.

Try this same test in combi mode, does it work then?

In combi mode the issue only happens on the first timbre (which is set to MIDI channel 01G).
I've tried this on an init combi.
I've also tried with an init project in Cubase, but no luck.

PS) I have Karma turned off.

Just some thoughts that may….or may not…help.
Pure guesswork, though,so don't be disappointed if all fails. :)

I see that in Cubase the Kronos is shown as Kronos 1 Keyboard for midi in and Kronos 1 Sound for the out……
On mine it just shows….
Kronos Keyboard for the in(that's the controller).
and
Kronos Sound for the out (that's the instrument).
Without the number.

Not sure if there could be something wrong with the instrument set up…or not..??

Noticed your audio is active…..again,not sure if this affects anything, though.

The volume for track 1 midi, is at its lowest position…
Test to see if it will also control the volume slider on the Kronos.

Kronos Settings....

Global page/Midi Filter/Enable Exclusive.
In sequencer mode all should show BTH……(you've confirmed this is correct).

Cubase settings....

Check Devices/Device Setup/Midi Port Setup……
It should show the Kronos in and out visible/active.
(I mention this as they can be hidden by choice which will render the port inactive).

Also, check the midi filter page (under preferences) to make sure there's nothing set on track 1.

Forgive the disjointed suggestions….
That's all I can think of for the moment.

No, this is only an alias for the MIDI port name. It can be changed in the Device Setup -> MIDI -> MIDI Port Setup under the "Show As"-column.

The volume sliders in Cubase do control the volume sliders on the Kronos, unless you put them all down in Cubase (you basically turn them off then).
I use the sliders on the Kronos to control the volume.

I've also checked if the volume on the Kronos goes to 0 the moment I play back, but that ain't the case.

Yes, I confirm that all are on BTH.

It does show the Kronos (both Kronos Keyboard as Kronos Sound) as visible and active.

None of the MIDI channels are selected there.

Have you tried a different usb cable ?

(Probably won't change anything....perhaps worth a try).

Is there another daw you can use temporarily, to check things out ?

Does the Kronos sequencer record and playback correctly ?

The next thing is to back track to what you did before this problem occurred....possibly re doing the whole install process again,maybe.....just maybe ,a simple step could have been missed somewhere.

I would really like for you to find a solution to this, but am running out of ideas and remain puzzled.

Best Wishes.

I don't have a spare USB-cable to test at the moment.
pedro5 wrote:Is there another daw you can use temporarily, to check things out?
I can have a look into that. I think I have some other DAW somewhere on my hard drive.
pedro5 wrote:Does the Kronos sequencer record and playback correctly?
Yes, when I record and playback on the Kronos sequencer, there's no issue at all.
I can hear any actively selected track on playback.

I've already done that more or less. I've reinstalled Cubase, Asio4All, and the Kronos driver.
I've also tried different versions of them.

I only noticed this issue recently, so not sure where it exactly started.
I find it kinda weird that it's only happening on channel 1, 2, 3 and 4.

I've fixed the issue! It was related to the Kronos indeed.

Fortunately I regularly make backups of my files on the Kronos.
I've just come up with the idea to open up a recently backed up PCG-file and load the Global Settings only.
When I did this, it fixed the issue immediately!

I checked all Global settings before loading the ones from the backup-file, but at a first glance, I see no setting different from what it was before.
So unfortunately I have no clue what caused the issue; I am quite sure I haven't touched the Global Settings in a while.

Anyways, I'm glad it's fixed! :D

Absolutely fantastic !!!!!

(Told you it was something simple...didn't I..??.... :D ).

A lesson for future reference for us,maybe.

Thanks for sharing this.

You can return to making some music now.

Best Wishes.

Just thought I would chime in here, as I believe I found the specific answer to this question (After several hours of trying... basically everything.)

I was having a similar issue in combination mode:

When I attempted to utilize MIDI out from my DAW and have the Kronos play it back - in Program mode, MIDI out worked just fine and I could hear the performance being played in whatever patch I chose, including patches I had created. However, when I was in Combination mode - specifically, combinations I had created, playback didn't occur. The faux solution was similar as well - changing the channel from KARMA.

Anyway, the solution that actually worked was as follows:

In Global > MIDI tab, under MIDI routing setup: KARMA external routing, make sure "Enable MIDI In to KARMA module" is checked. Once I checked that box, everything worked just fine.

This post is ancient, but it was one of the first to show up when I was searching on google. Hopefully it saves someone else from menu-diving in the future.
