Does the Kronos X 61 also have a loud fan like the Kronos?

Not to mention that with the dollar so low against the euro, the US base price is already a couple hundred dollars lower than the EU base price. If the Kronos were made in US I'd understand but as it is, I feel pretty shafted. They have to make their money somewhere and they're doing it over here.
isn't it just a TAX issue? We have to pay 21% tax on top of the standard price. But i agree, since we have to pay 5339 dollar for a K88 and the USA price is around 3200 dollars for a k88. It seems that we have to pay a lot more then other parts of the world (even without the tax compensation in the price)

But this is the case with all the workstations, just look at the price of a motif xf 88 or a Jupiter 80. All in the same pricerange as the Kronos 88.

Sales tax is a part of it, I suppose, though as you say, not nearly all of it. The differences are simply too big. Moreover, US resellers seem much more inclined to give substantial discounts than European ones. I can't believe they'd take a loss more readily than their European counterparts so that would suggest their margins on the MAP are better too.

Don't forget that the X also has a much larger SSD, and you installing the RAM yourself may void your warranty.

KORG can also do the upgrade officially for you.

I took that offer but what they charge for it is ridiculous, not to mention they install an SSD with a controller that is known to have issues. Also, in my case, the RAM was actually not seated properly by the official upgrade guy!

One should definitely not give up warranty lightly. But at the same time, the more tech savvy people should wonder if it's not actually safer to do the upgrade themselves. I think law actually doesn't allow them to void warranty on, say, the keybed, if all the user did was install an SSD and RAM. The motherboard would probably be under dispute though.

Totally agree with you. I'm just playing “Devil's Advocate” here. It's simple to a tech savvy person, and on the forums here they make it look simple to people who shouldn't even be allowed to own a screwdriver.

The x as I understand it has a newer version board as well over what was in the non x. There was a thread about this not to long ago.

I know exactly how you feel. I paid $3500 (plus tax) for a Kronos 73 about 15 months ago.

Korg UK only charged me £100 for installing an extra 60GB disk and the extra memory, I thought that was a pretty good price.

That is fairly reasonable I'd say. The official upgrade path here in Holland is €300 for a stick of RAM and a 120GB Intel 510 series SSD (which uses the much disputed Sandforce controller). The disk itself sells for about 100 bucks or slightly less through online retailers, should you want it.

DennyC wrote:Excellent move. I was wondering how you pulled that off. On the GC page they have "exclusions" and when you call about those manufacturers that are usually top notch, you will usually find that they are excluded from the promotion. Did you get them to discount it anyway? As Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Kurzweil are always "excluded"...meaning they are listed as not participating in the GC promotional sales. :) :)
Well they didnt have any 61 Xs in stock at the store when I switched out the Kronos 61, but the regular 61 they had in stock was on sale as well as a lot of other keyboard brands. They didn't mention anything about an exclusion, and when they ordered me the new board they gave me the sale discount.
