Quite a bunch of extreme idiots on their way nowadays.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5
I have both Kronos 61 and Extreme 76. I agree on the keybed feel, as I love the keys on the DX7, and on Korg's 01/W, T3, etc. They should have implemented one of those in Kronos.
But I think the aftertouch in Kronos is way more controllable than in the Extreme, where it behaves like an on/off switch and it's so light that I have to play with care so it doesn't get triggered when I don't want it to. I'm totally comfortable with this feature in Kronos. And to be honest, the feel of the keys is more adequate for piano patches than the ones in the mentioned models.
Korg MS-20 Kit, Korg MS-20 mini, Korg KingKorg, Korg Volca Series (Beats, Bass, Keys), Korg Kronos 61, Korg X50, Korg Triton Extreme 76 (96MB RAM, MOSS), Korg MS2000B, Korg monotron series (classic, duo, delay), Korg monotribe, Kawai K5000W, Nord Stage 88, Nord Electro 2, Nord Modular G2X, Nord Lead 3, Novation X-Station, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air
to be honest, the aftertouch is a bit hard... but kronos is my first board with an aftertouch feature :p
however, the most important thing is, IT SOUNDS GREAT AND IT HAS USER STREAMING SAMPLES (which really ROCKS )
Love my kronos 88
Love my yamaha psr s910 as well
Korg Kronos 88, Yamaha PSR s910, Korg C720, Yamaha DTX 520, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, a pair of Yamaha HS80 in (soon not to be) an unproperly treated room..
When we were developing the M3, the first keyboard to use the new synth-action keybed, the engineers set up a test patch where aftertouch controlled pitch bend, set to raise the pitch by an octave. We were amazed how well we could control the effect, something I would never consider doing on ANY other keyboard. We even demonstrated this for the world press who we brought to Japan for a pre-release showing of new products that year.
I'm not suggesting you do this for your patches, but it speaks to just how refined the aftertouch is on this keybed (used only on the M3-61/73 and Kronos 61 so far).
You can always consider running the aftertouch through an AMS Mixer if you wish to use the smoothing function, then use that AMS Mixer's output to control the destination of your choice. We often did that for the ribbon as well, giving you very controllable shaping of the response.
