Hi Hugo -
No it's not. The iPad is still on iOS3 and that's not capable of running several tasks at once. I don't keep up with all the latest OS's and their capabilities so I'll stand corrected on this if wrong - but I don't think iO4 is a true multitasking OS either - in the usual Win/OSX/UNIX/Linux sense.
But even if a version of iOS4 appears for the iPad, that won't solve the problem either as I don't think the electribe and iMS20 can work together or even sync together. Surely companies like Korg will be looking to provide such features in the long run? But that's not for now.
But I have to say, though limited in my spare time, I've been giving some time to the iMS20 and though I have 20 or more music apps for my iPad, this is by far the most exciting, most professional and arguably deepest feature set - at least it feels utterly complete, utterly the real deal and it sounds fantastic. I absolutely love the drum machine and hope I can integrate it, as is, into current and upcoming projects, even if only over the headphone socket or via export through Sound Cloud. This app is the one that I'm going to give serious time to learn - the time investment will be worth it. It feels as complete an acquisition as any full featured synth or serious AU plugin. It's great!

Thanks for the info, Kevin. The iMS-20 sure looks awesome. I've used the DS-10 for the Nintendo quite a bit, and that app is excellent too. Not sure what to do just now; I was planning on picking up an iPhone or iPod, but now I think maybe I should save up some more money and get the iPad instead. Choices, choices....
I wonder this too, and also I am curious as to if this uses the same guts as the Legacy MS-20, and if it doesn't if its better or worse.X-Trade wrote:What I'd like to know at the moment is how it compares to the DS-10. And if it isn't as good, why not?
Though I do think this is really cool, I would like to see Korg make a soft synth which isn't just a remake of their "classics", since there's so much potential in something like an Ipad to do something genuinely radical, just like how the real MS-20 was.
There's definitely some real innovative apps coming out for iOS devices that takes advantage of this new platform, even if Korg hasn't done something completely radical, although I do find Korg in general to be very innovative in their approach. Mind you, the iMS-20 is not just a remake of the MS-20. It's far more than that. They've added two kaoss pads and a slew of Electribe style effects, a 16-step analog style sequencer, and a 6 part drum machine with swing. In a super portable multitouch tablet format. The end result is a genuinely new experience and is worthy of being considered a new instrument.dayuri wrote:Though I do think this is really cool, I would like to see Korg make a soft synth which isn't just a remake of their "classics", since there's so much potential in something like an Ipad to do something genuinely radical, just like how the real MS-20 was.

Un-God-Damn-Believable.
Korg did not release any documentation with the iMS20!
While there's a html guide on-line - what the hell use is that when you're using the iPad as n iMS20?
I went to Korg.com and for the documentation download for iMS20 Korg returned a big fat zero documents.
I hugely admire Korg, but some times they just do not get it. Korg - how the hell is anyone supposed to get ot know how to use this app properly with no downloadable guide?
Wake up - and convert your HTML document into a PDF ASAP please!
While we're on it - Korg - rereleasing the original MS20 manual is not sufficient. You have re-incarnated the MS20 in four seperate software versions and it's high time you updated your documentation with cintemporary explanations on modular synthesis in particular.

I think such a ridiculously low price devalues everything. Korg themselves, of everything they have achieved. And working musicians, those who have purchased and use their products, and retailers too.
Korg are adapting to a new business model to sustain their grip on profits, but at the same time they're selling out, I feel.

Yes, and like (another) new very popular "app" the NANOSTUDIO make me feel (at least), that ANYONE can make music, whether they Want-to or not. its just all there isn#t it? £8.99 and your off....Timo wrote:I think such a ridiculously low price devalues everything. ... and ridiculously high price for iPad if you are able to get one in your area at all. Actually for that price of new iPad you can get slightly used, but much more powerfull windows tablet PC with multitouch support (some LCD monitors now also support multitouch) - of course - no softwareTimo wrote:I think such a ridiculously low price devalues everything
