For the OASYS, I'm looking into it for about 3 or 4 months now to buy one... there is a brand new one (88) in shop for AU$8500; and a used 76 one for maybe around $4000... I need a 76 key because the keys are softer and better for my arthritis pains in fingers, wrists and shoulders... it's a shame, I know...

I don't care about the sequencing and recording that much... most I need out of a synth, is creating and making sounds... the KARMA and any other sound making features it has will be more useful to me... however, Sharp, I listened to your links you posted here; I found the strings sound a bit artificial and it's a bit like MIDI sounds in your first CLICK ME. Is it how it is or there were some settings that you have made and changed the sound quality or you used a different sound for strings or what?? Does the OASYS have the capability to record MP3?

Thanks for all your shared comments.

I think the strings in the OASYS sound wonderful for the most part, but they lack a strong attack, so they sound kinda thin, especially in the higher octaves. Needs some love from the 01/W :P If you click on the link in my signature, the strings used in that came from 2 string multisamples taken from the 01/Wfd. Then all I did was swap out two analog string parts in the "Platinum Strings" patch on the M3 for those two. Makes a very full sounding string section in a single program. I'm sure the same procedure could be used on the OASYS (assuming that program is on there). String sample data: http://www.mediafire.com/file/n2tmymjjyzm/V_STRS.zip

loved the forrest gump sequence :)

Hi shahab.
Sharp, I listened to your links you posted here; I found the strings sound a bit artificial and it's a bit like MIDI sounds in your first CLICK ME.
Maybe it's an MP3 thing ?

I will be in the Studio tomorrow all day so I'll upload the SNG file for everyone to play around with.

Regards
Sharp.

Here's the SNG file.

http://www.korgforums.com/support/oasys/FOREST.SNG

You need to have the Factory defaults loaded and EXs 1 and EXs3 loaded for this to work.

Sharp.

Thanks Sharp fro uploading the SNG file.

I think if anyone has doubts over the OASYS strings, they will stop after listening to these sounds.

I played each midi track individually (10,12,13,14 i think) and all very "SPACIOUS"sounding and what amazes me most in this Seqeuncer set you did sharp, is they ALL sound like Combis/programs WITHIN a sequence :D , VERY full sounding, and with VERY little effect used (Overb) and wide/Spacious.

I think you could probably use 16 more tracks (*Cough*;)) and still take use of the OASYS EFX section. Great song too, I play the Solo piano version (a bit)

When you said "its an MP3 thing" well thats it i think. Listening to the MP3, THEN straight through the OASYS seems like going from 8 bit to 32 Optical if you get what i mean;)

Thanks

Thanks Anthony.

I think the ability of the OASYS to sound so spacious is what I love about it the most. It's the strangest thing ever to try explain to someone actually. Like how do you explain that the OASYS will sound so massively spacious compared to any other keyboard and also provide a technical reason why ? It's not easy but it's 100% real.

I can't remember what my Effects setup is like in that demo, but I bet I have all the sounds stripped way back to just reverb. Some say that's the best way to show a keyboards weakness by stripping back effects, but for the OASYS it's the opposite. It just shows off it's strengths.

Sorry for the graphic detail in this part but it has to be said. The Overb effect is like wiping your ass with pure sink. Ultra smooth like nothing else in the world.

I know exactly what you mean, but how does one explain that to someone how doesn't own an OASYS ?.. lol .... It's not easy.

by uploading a short 24/96 wav file?
maybe for best quality but showing the quality of the DA converters, you could loop it back from the main output to an input and record directly on the OASYS. Or if anyone has an MR-1....

I admit, yes I don't own one (OASYS), but i spent half an hour or so in front of one at the shop, and I'm very attentive to KORG keyboards in particular - I like to get to know them even if I don't own one.
Even just browsing through the presets, you immediately get the impression that this is a completely different machine to anything else out there. Certainly anything else in the room (hence any other workstation or VA on the market currently), It has depth and clarity and detail puts the M3, M50, and Radias (nearest contenders in terms of sound IMO) to shame.
But as you say, it is almost completely inexplicable.

Hey all,

I still haven't got one of my answers: Does the OASYS have the capability to record MP3?

Sharp,

thanks for your SNG upload. I need to keep it until I buy my one then I can listen to it!!! I have played with the OASYS and have heard the strings which are fabulous and never heard anything better than them... That wasn't the case; the case was if the quality of sounds were changed when you recorded that demo.

I held my breath and jumped in

I could not take it anymore. I went and got a Oasys. It is used but it is in great shape. So I had to sell some things to pay for it. My Korg Radias, several other samplers/synths. I think the Oasys is worth it. Fell in Love with this since I first heard it in 2008. Anybody out there want to bye a used 45 yr. old Mellotron? Gotta pay for the jump. My friends think I'm crazy to get a instrument that is not supported any more by Korg. They don't understand it like I do....LOL When they hear it, they will understand it.
Anyway I'll be hanging out on this forum to get ideas and asking many questions.

Hey all,

Would you please tell me, apart from the number of the keys, what more advantages you get from 88 over 76?
