We should all be concerned with the health of the motherboard in the big O. Unfortunately it is populated with many electrolytic capacitors. These have electrolyte inside and have the unfortunate characteristic of drying out over time which then causes them to cease functioning and hence your motherboard also to cease functioning.

For those intent on buying backup motherboards, you would be well advised to keep them in a cool dry place where the electrolyte will be slower to dry out.

Today manfacturers are doing away with these troublesome electrolytic capacitors and replacing them with "solid" ones which don't have the electrolyte problem. I live in hope that Korg will identify a replacement with these newer capacitors in it and maybe--just maybe--a major source of grief can be avoided, but I'm not holding my breath.

Meanwhile heat and dirt are the main enemy we have to contend with.

Re capacitors: the temperature in the OASYS stays pretty low (around 45 celsius, I believe), so standard electrolytic capacitors should last for a good, long while. I have several synths approaching 20 years of age without having had capacitor failures.

That's good to hear. Let's hope our orphan O's hold up at least that long. The terrific sound we get from these instruments will never grow old.

Tell them to go home, so you can get back to work on this site with all known resources on parts replacements!

Please, surely your family can see the urgency in this!

Can anyone tell me how many pin's is hdd for Oasys?
I wanna put SSD put have to have all spec's right.

Exf was supposed to be the expansion effects for the Oasys as stated in the manuals, homepage, press release, demos.....and of course Korg FAILED on their promise!
Essentially we paid for false advertising and didn't get our moneys worth.
Thats why everyone that ever bought an Oasys from new, got cheated and swindled.
So that is what the Exf has become: a symbol of prostitution for money without delivering the goods!

Standard PATA IDE 2.5" SSD 44 pin. Ive replaced both my Oasys with SSD's. Try to get transcend and avoid buying those chinese brands. You can still buy transcend ones on ebay brand new but they're not so cheap.
